93 octane...

I just did a tune up on my IX and I was wondering how to make the octane go up to 93. I bought a lucas octane booster. so far from what I heard was that I pump 91 octane, but before doing this I put the octane booster first then pump gas. well I would like to hear your input guys. thanks.

Don't use octane boosters. Buy unleaded race fuel and mix proper quantities, deal with your 91 octane, or get methanol injection. Octane boosters are not consistent.

Every fuel pump, by law, must state the octane rating of the fuel you are pumping out of it.

Put in about 4-5 gallons of 100 octane (~$6.50 a gallon) in each tank. Not really worth it though unless you're on a race track.

Those octane boosters...Think of them the same way you think of those magnets they sell that clip on to your fuel line to give you a 25% increase in fuel economy. They're also the equivalent of those tornado air intake things that give you 15% more horsepower.

If you can't find a 100 octane pump around you just go buy some toluene if you want a true and simple octane booster.

Octane boosters will not even raise it by 1 number (they advertise "point" increases, which is 0.1, not 1.0)

As stated, you'd have to buy race gas and mix it or use something like Xylene or Toulene, which aren't cheap either

Octane boosters don't cut it with our crappy 91 octane. Water/Alcohol injection is the most practical and inexpensive way in the long run. That's the way I've been able to live with 91 octane for the past 3 years on my Evo.

Also, I'd stay away from anything that contains MTBE.

Octane boosters, I wish I had come up with this. Get rich of something that doesn't work, but sounds good.

Its a good thing I still haven't used that octane booster I bought. so far I've been pumping just 91 octane on my evo, I was just wondering because I know our cars are designed for 93 octane. but would it be bad to keep pumping 91. I usually pump @ 76. thanks guys.

I would recommend a methanol injection kit to net you a little extra power.

Gains are anywhere from 30-80whp depending on your mods and nutty you'd like to get.

I personally got my car up to 438/444 with just a tbe, mbc, Walbro, fmic, clutch, intake and meth kit.

stock o2, manifold, cams and no porting.

Cheers!

NO!!!!!!!!!.........LOL

meth rocks though.....lets you increase boost and timing.

if not then just stick with your 91 and live with it.....

You can mix up to 3 gallons of Xylene in warm weather without having to lubricate it... but it's not meant for cold
