Well guys I understand the concern!

It does sound too good to be true. But this is a family friend of my buddys parents. Now he doesn’t know the guy selling the car as well as his parents because he is here in Florida, he’s more of an acquaintance to him.

The reason the guy is swapping the engine is because my buddy doesn’t want to buy the car with the mods, he wants to do his own stuff, the guy has the stock engine and parts and will replace it back for my friend.

Also buying the car already modded in this case means a higher price, if the car is pushing 450HP++ the guy wouldn’t sell the car for 16k.

Granted 16k is cheap! EVEN for an 03 evo with 15k miles. That’s ridiculous. I just read from another member here who purchased an 03 Evo VIII with 37k miles for $16k, and that was a deal.

I guess it does sound funny when I say he is swapping the engine, but he is flying his friend in to work on the car until he gets in from Barbados.

I hope that eases the tension on this being a scary deal, its not really a stranger. In that case, this would be scary not knowing the history of the car.

Also the car would occasionally go on the track and besides that its been in storage. The guy doesn’t need the car and is well, giving my buddy a deal.

Hope this eases the thought of this car being some sort of lemon!!! But you all have valid points.

But if it was some stranger off the street, eh, I'm sure it would be a fishy deal...

Okay for one this car was taken to the track right?? and they are just replacing their motor with a stock motor right?? So best case scenario the motor they put back in it is in good condition but what about the drivetrain after it has obviously seen some track time. The track is harder on more than just the motor......just a thought.

Yeah, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If it's a clean title and smog legal, buy it for 15k and then flip it like a house. Take that money for a down payment on something else at worse case scenario.

Be weary though with the resell... usually aftermarket parts depreciate the value of a car not increase it.
