Tranny Problems on Cold Days
I have owned my 9 for about two months now. Some mornings when it is really cold my tranny doesn't not want to go into gear with ease. I let her warm up for a good ten minutes before I take the kids to school, so I thought that it may be another problem. Now once the car starts moving a couple hundred feet, it shifts fine. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, is it common and is there a way to correct it? I tried searching and really didn't come up with anything so comments and advice are welcome.

Good news then! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an issue. I have owned a 95 GSX and never had the issue. I am still kinda new to the Evo world. I have done alot of searching here and not much posting. Nice to see I get a fast response to my questions. Thanks

You can also try shifting from first to third and skip second gear when you are just starting out. That will forego some of that second gear grind when the car is just warming up.

When you start your car in the cold and let it warm up before you drive, you're only warming up the engine (as far as the drivetrain is concerned). That's why it still seems like the transmission is a bit notchy. Once you've moved the car around a bit and friction has started to warm up things inside the transmission, it starts to feel like normal. That's why you don't notice it get better until after you had driven it a bit.
