Used cams vs. new cams

Hey guys, i'm looking to buy my cams today.
I was just wondering, (since normally I don't like buying used parts) should I stay away from buying used cams? I'm just curious if it makes any difference at all buying the cams brand new, as opposed to buying some with say 10k miles.(performance wise or anything) Thanks!

Edit: Sorry mods, I didn't even notice I put this in the Evo X section, can you move it please.

Hey man, I just reported your thread to the mods asking them to move it. You have to click on the little red triangle (looks like a road sign) that is just below the number of posts you have.

I reported it so they would move it before all the X guys jump all over you and start calling you names.

And, to answer your question, new is always better than used parts. But, would depend on who you are buying the cams from (do you trust them, do you know how they were used, were they abused). Good luck.

cams are a non-wear item.
unless damaged by outside force they should perform as well used as when they were new.

i make it a policy not to buy hard parts (engine, transmission parts) used. A cam can warp very easy if you left it laying down for to long. i have a spot under my bench where my cams hang the long way. I have way to many for the mustang

fox2boost is right even crankshafts can easily wrap enough to cause problems by simply not being stored properly (on their ends). although however dr sound is also right they are a non-wear item as far as i know. the only way i would do it, is if i pulled them out, watched them being removed, or really trusted the guy i was buyng them from. otherwise you could cause damage

I had two different pairs of used cams in my old EVO 8. Had used 264's and then bought some used 272's. Just make sure you trust the person your buying them from. I knew both people personally so it was all good.

9 times out of 10 you would be fine buying cams on this forum because are cars are fairly new. I go to alot of swap meets for parts on my mustang, this is mainly were i try to stay away from the engine parts. You never know how long the cam was laying down in uncle charlie's garage or how many runs he has on his super cheap aluminum rods.
