Practicing what you preach (long)

I'm posting this in hopes to sway one or two of you who read this into thinking twice about messing around on the streets.
I used to be stupid on the roads when I had a bike and when I had my first fast car... did some stupid stuff I now regret, but always took them for learning and bettered my driving and my actions from them. i could make this long and winded but I'll try my best to make it to the point more or less.
About 2 years ago ,when I had my YZF-R6, I got busted doing 150mph past a cop on St. Rose out here in Vegas (for those of you who don't know it's a 'too good to be true road' miles of wide open, empty, 6 lane wide road that has a good 2 mile open section) It was a beautiful Sunday and I had the road all to myself, tucked and flew. I saw the cop on the side of the road as passed him, I could have ran and gotten away, but I made the smart decision to stop and for that I saved my butt by stopping for the cop. He didn't tow me and gave me a good man to man talk and didn't rip me a new one and was actually pretty leniant on me. After that I truly for the first time 'slowed it down' with driving and riding. I ended up selling my bike as part result of it being far too tempting and not to mention how its a risk everytime just scooting around, esp on a bike, even in a controlled enviroment.
I got my Evo for the fact I always was dying to have one. I got lucky and picked mine up for a steal. Didn't think I could ever have one but here I am today with my beloved IX. When I got my car I told myself I was going to be responsible and use it on the track and HPDE if ever I wanted to hammer on it. Whether its going to the track or auto-x's. I have always been responsible with driving it and (even though its so hard to do) ignore guys trying to get you to play on the freeway. Done really good for the past year until last night....
Long story short. Was going down the SAME ROAD (St. Rose) that I got my reckless on the bike on and royally put my foot in my mouth with the time and time again of scolding my friends for messing around on the streets. At the green light before the long stretch of road, a brand new Jaguar XK-R and a big front mount VR6 pulled up on either side of me. Both revving and ready to take advantage of the long stretch of upcoming road... I went against everything I stand for with not racing on the roads and being irresponsible and I banged on the launch control and left as soon as that light turned green. Didn't even make it across the 30' intesection before I saw red and blue out of the corner of my eye.. . All three of us left that light like bats out of hell and no more than 30' of stupidity landed me..the jag owner and the jetta owner with reckless driving tickets.
I seriously felt like the biggest tool on the planet. All the times of being pissed at the kids who do street race like its a lifestyle and the people who make the insurance rates for our cars rise.. I considered myself just like one of them and felt like the biggest p.o.s ever. The cop didnt even say anything but license and registration and handed me my ticket... no tow.. no extenuating tickets like my test pipe or tint. Thanking god my car wasnt towed and I got off with what I consider to be pretty easy for the second time doing something compeletly stupid. My car would have been raped at the tow yard and not to mention all the fines and how much it cost to get it out.
I woke up this morning naturally upset and ashamed at myself for doing that. Almost like wearing a condom everytime and the time you dont you get the clap. Point being. I dont think there is a single Evo owner on here who hasn't put the foot down and slammed a couple gears down on the roads...we all know that having an Evo is like having a hot girlfriend who is always horny and ready to get busy. But take my stupidity, lack of good judgement and irresponsibilty as notion that all it takes it that one time you make a stupid decision you are taking that chance and there are consequence to your actions. I learned why I never mess around on the streets and re assured myself what an idiot I am for what I did by going against my good decision making and being irresponsible about my car. Keep it safe guys and think twice next time you get the opportunity to open a can on someone on the roads... keep it for the tracks or the road courses. It really doesnt pay to play on the streets. Nevermind the tons of money to pay the tickets and the hassle of court...the embarassment and being ashamed at yourself are far bigger prices to pay . You can flame all you want, I know I'm a dumba** for that one moment and what I did. I just hope I can sway someone who normally isn't responsible on the roads to use me as an example

street racing is not a crime

But yes, it sucks to get caught. Did you just pay the ticket? In CA that's a misdemeanor, it sucks.

Live and learn. We've all done stupid stuff on the street, but it takes a while for the safety part to sink in.

I've slowed down partly from wising up and partly because I enjoy driving my car and don't want my licence, car, or money taken away from me because of a stupid stunt. With that said, I know how to enjoy my car without being stupid.

I do love watching guys squirm trying to have me race them. I had this poor guy in an M3 just reving constantly and giving me "the look." I smiled and just kept on driving like everyone else. He sped off and could barely keep it on the road. Now who looks like the tool?

Just glad this wasn't one of those "crashed my Evo" threads.

I think we've all been there at one point in time. At least you feel bad about it and probably won't do it again.

You're also very lucky. In some states, you lose your license for street racing and I believe in California they crush your car if caught street racing. Thank your lucky stars...

We have all been there. the temptation to open it up. This is the reason I am going to get rid of the EVO. I do not need 158 MPH. Thanks for the story.

Its not worth the risk to street race man. Jepordizing your life and lives around you is what scares me the most. Getting nailed for street racing is minor and you don't lose sleep over it. Taking the lives of other is something you have to deal with till your 6ft under.
Good thing you learned now and hopefully someone would learn from your mistake(s).

I think there is a law in California that says the police can not only impound your car but also have it crushed for street racing. At least you are ok man.It seems that you learned your lesson.Drive safely.
