is this a constant thing....
How is your seating position... many people who have the seat leaned too far back will do this...
If you had a minor grind or lockout a front motor mount will correct this, but if youre getting a hardcore grind that probably wont help...
On a side note, I have a shep tranny in my car and its amazing... Turn around was nice and it feels smoother than the stock tranny... I'm making well over 500whp and have no grind or lockout issues shifting over 8k
Cheers!

Ive tried the Forge front motor mount , Exedy twin and Pennzoil syncromesh(sp) . Still can not "speed shift" 1-2 .
Something to think about , the 2-3 upshift I can speed shift but the knock senson dosent like it at all and pulls timing . So iam shifting faster but going slower

I have had 2 evo's and an eclipse I have found this to be a problem in all of them. Even when new so it is not a worn part. I have also noticed it is more about operating temps than any thing else. When the car has been driven for a while it is less likely to be an issue. I have notice it beeing a little better after the motor mount but it still rears its ugly head from time to time. I hope this helps a bit.

I think a distinction should be made between notchiness and grinding.
My 1-2 is notchy when cold that goes away when warmed up. Totally normal.
What the OP is describing is clearly grinding, and indicative of worn synchros.
I would take hanahawaiian's advice, find a tranny from a crashed Evo or go Shep:
