Question about stepper motor boost gauge, STRI & DEFIs
Anyone using STRI DSD-SLM II Gauges? These are stepper motor driven gauges. I just installed a boost gauge and I notice some tickling on the gauge movement, specialty when the car is idling and the vacuum reads about 18in Hg. The tickling is not noticeable during boost or any other big movement of the needle. I can detect it just when the needle is almost steady and a very small movement is required to make the reading. I know that is the way stepper motors work but I guess it also depends on the needle gearing. Is this normal? Do I have a bad gauge? Do DEFI Boost gauge does the same thing?

im not sure whats going on from waht your describing, but i just installed a stri boost gauge, and the needle does not move smoothly at all. its almost like a ticking clock as it goes up. mainly at idle, under boost it moves fast enough to be smooth. not srue if this is normal, if it is, that sucks.

Thats exactly what I am seeing with mine. At vacuum it ticks like a quartz clock (not really that bad) but under boost it moves fast enough to look smooth. I guess this is the price of getting the STRI as opposed to a really expensive gauge like DEFI or APEX. As long as the read at Full Boost is OK I guess its not too bad.
