Depnds on exactly what you're looking for. Pep Boys carries some decent helmets. If you are looking for nicer helmets, you can always try a local motorcycle shop, which normally carrries really nice, yet lightweight, helmets.

i got mine from these guys:
http://www.motodirect.com/
cheap SNELL/DOT certified helmets.
i plan on getting a "name brand" one eventually, but wanted to make sure it was something i was going to use before i went and spent a couple hundred collars on a nice one.
i think i got both of my current helmets for like 50 bucks each.

I got mine from soloracer: http://www.soloracer.com/helmets.html
Best bet is if there's a shop near where you are, go there and test fit. Each manufacturer seems to be different so check the size. The size varies from full face and open face as well. And depending on what you are needing it for, make sure you get the proper snell rating.

Basically, Snell is the rating of the helmet - Automotive or motorcycle
SA is for automotive and most every road course requires this rating to go on their track. It has a higher flammability resistance.
M is for motorcycles
The snell rating is only good for 5 years, so a helmet should be replaced every 5 years or when an impact happens to the helmet.

Not to threadjack or anything, but I was wondering about the rating too. Is an SA2005 an SA2005, no matter what it's made of? ...fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc. Just wondering because I have a past head injury so I have to be especially careful with head protection. I mean I know that as long as it's certified as that, it conforms to that level of safety. I just wanted to know if within that specification if one material protected better than another.

the newest dot and snell aproved helmets are the safest. every year they make the saftey checks on the helmets stricter therefore if you get a 2008 helmet that passes dot and snell then u have a very safe helmet on ur hands
