Decoding Japanese VIN's

Well, I went to the California state ref today. I purchased an EVO 6 from Florida and am trying to transfer the title here, to California. After waiting for an hour or so, I was given the answer that the inspector had no idea what to do with a Japanese vin. What I need is a way to decode the Japanese VIN to prove to the DMV what the car is. Can anyone help?

I gues use the first 10 didgits from mirrage the same year then just stick your last seven in. It should say on your firewall something like CP9A-XXXXXXX. The last seven or six is the acutal number you r car was made. In other words If my Evo says the Vin with the last seven as 002378 then that means its was the 2,378th CT9A to roll out of the factory. So no other CT9A here or in japan will have my last seven. So its not like you are gonna steal someone elses vin. but carfax the final vin to insure that no one has it. But see if you can get cali to assign you a vin number. My evo doesn't say 002378 I just came up with that because I am too lazy to go and check. Plus I don't wanna post my vin on the internet.

Look ther is a Wiki on vins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle...rts_of_the_VIN just fill in the part that is individual to your car and use the first 11 from a mirage.

I know NY assigns vins to cars, and they are realy short, like 6 didgets or less. Like NY1234

ohh yeah don't forget about he check didgit. You have to find out how they calculate that and choose the right didgit for you vin
