so if its whining you need a new ring and pinion? Can you still drive it w/ the t-case whine and it wont cause any damage to the car?

I am about to get a used whining tcase that I'm gonna get rebuilt by Shep. Needs a ring and pinion. Should I get a stage 1 or 2 rebuild? As far as lsd's go quaife is the best one to get but is Helical good as well?

It should be ok until it grenades. You also have a chance of locking up all 4 wheels.

Stage 1 does not come with LSD, only stage 2 and 3. Personally I've had no problems with the helical stage 3. I dont think a stage three is needed unless your making tons of hp.

How can I tell if the whine I'm hearing is my t-case or my walbro? The noise is pretty faint, sometimes I can't hear it at all. It sounds nothing like the "death whine" people are showing in their videos. When I do hear it, it has to be under 3K rpms on accel or cruise, or the exhaust will drowned it out/it goes away.

pretty sure my ring and pinion is going bad. But i only hear mine from like 58mph to 64mph with throttle applied. In the video you can hear my tcase for just a split second its like the sound has a on/off switch.

What do you guys think

What are the chances that the drive shaft is bad? A dealer told my friend that he needs a new t case and drive shaft.

Yours seems to be ok. But, since it is whining at cruising speeds, that is a sign its on its way to death whine. I beleive you should only be able to hear the whine at low speeds and at cruising speeds it should not be audible.

the whine you hear at low speeds is a straight cut 1st gear.
