i dont understand the people that are telling you to buy the car in CA... you already have the evo i assume. so are you guys suggesting he sells the car and take a 7-10 thousand dollar loss and then go buy another one when he gets to CA. just so he doesnt have to pay 1500 bucks to ship it?

crazy world, maybe im reading in wrong or something

I was in the military and was stationed out there in Oahu. Matson has the primary contract for all the armed forces on the island. As far as quality in service getting your car shipped over. You're best bet is Matson because you have two options: 1) ship it open container for less money or 2) ship it in closed container for a little more.

The difference between the two is obviously the state of which your car will be exposed to the elements in the open container vs. closed. Usually the military shipped our cars open container. Ive seen cars come off the ships and on the ports of Long Beach coming from Hawaii...and they get dirty with salt air and bird **** everywhere...but as soon as they touch down, they wash your car. Other than that...thats all I really know. Good luck.

I suggest spending the extra $ for a closed container...

I bought my evo from s.c. mitsu and had it shipped from there to oahu for roughly $1k.

Make sure you do a thorough check on the car before shipping. Document w/ photos if you must.

When you get your car in cali, don't drive off the property without doing another thorough inspection...

If/when you ship, make sure you use a closed container. When I brought my car to Hawaii, from Japan, the salt water destroyed the finish on my wheels.
I shipped a BMW M3 to Cali, through Matson, for $890, closed that included roll on/off service.
