Infant Seat in Evo?
#17
Child seats have side impact features built in to the car seats. The problem I see with putting in the middle, is if the car seat belt slips off the shoulders in a front end inpact, your child could go flying in to the windshield. My wife and I asked this question to a CHP officer and was told behind the seat was the best chance for survival. The percentage of front inpact, compared to side impact, was greater. You have to decide what you think is better for your child, not what others suggest on a forum, or ask your local Highway Patrol.

Great...
I don't know about you but I can see it's obvious. I'd rather have a foot on EACH side of my son and have that advantage over him having merely inches and relying on "side impact features built in to the car seats." I also don't see how modern day shoulder straps can even "slip off the shoulders". I don't know what you're strapping your child into but its nearly impossible for him to move once he's strapped in.
Like everything else said in California, thank you for spreading fear...

The side impact rating isn't very good, which is why I put my daughter in her car seat, then lay the seat down sideways in the trunk. If you remove the left speaker from beneath the rear window, it allows enough air to circulate from the cabin through the trunk so the baby can breathe, plus you lose 2.3 lbs of weight by removing the speaker!
But yeah, our seat/base fit well in the backseat of the Evo when mounted in the center and behind the passenger seat (I think ours is a Graco?).

Graco is one of the most popular car seats and is the one we use as well. When you put the harness over the shoulders, with the pads, you have to latch the top plastic together, then slid it up so it pull the harness together, to prevent in a rear facing seat, the child from sliding head forward. The problem I see with this, is you can only make it so tight, I think the rule is two finger under that top plastic latch and the chest. We all know that in a front end, everything becomes any where from two to ten times the weight, depending on speed and how fast you come to a stop. It just makes sence to put the child behind the seat. Those seat also come with a shade cover, we tuck that between the child seat and the drivers seat and acks like a shoot, if she was to come lose out of the harness. It's scary to think about, but we try to give her the best chance possible.

I hauled around a 5 year old and a 7 year old in child seats in mine for a whole day, they loved it, giggling and having tons fun! The only issue I had with it is that their feet were in perfect kicking range to the cheap plastic backs of the seats... I had my girlfriend slide way forward so they wouldnt hit her seat, but I couldn't slide forward

It leaves a good amount of room, i just wouldn't do it for a long ride say longer than 1 -1 1/2 hour. Plus you always have the front seat open for other stuff.
