I'm pretty sure that the soap is part of the process (as I haven't been in one of these in over ten years), but you might need your own towels.

wow where do you live that it takes 25 minutes to get to a car wash? and if i ever have to use a selfwash, i only use it for the highpressure to wash underneath and the spotfree water. so i would take all your car wash stuff so you dont have to use the places crapy soap.

I say, take all of your stuff with you. Especially drying towels because they charge you for drying towels.

I always bring my own stuff to a carwash (Bucket, sponge, soap, towls etc) I just use them for water. Most carwash places seem to have a highly concentrated soap for wash and will strip all the wax off of the car, and their brush will leave swirls all over your car.

Bring your own stuff in the trunk, it wont hurt. And do not use anything they offer on your car except for the heated water... It will scratch. From experience.

What the heck is a self wash?? (I know what it is) I have never seen one, however I would like to use their pressure washer! Might have to google in my area. Is it a franchise type place?

(actually mabye I should just buy a pressure washer, they cant be too expensive??)

They're the type of place you drive by and dont think twice about, unless you really care about taking care of your car. I never noticed they existed until I bought my evo.

NOTE: There might not always be a condescending looking fellow wearing daisy dukes in the doorway.

you insert quarters into a machine (typically always a minimum of at least $1.50), and you get X minutes to use any feature that comes from the hose. they have all kinds of junk like pre-wash formula, high pressure water only (the only option i use), tire foam, wax, and other stuff. i insert $1.50 to rinse (it's 3 minutes worth), and $1.50 to rinse after washing. i use my own stuff to wash though. McGuire's FTW

Pay attention though, cause it typically takes me about 1h to wash, and most places to not approve of "bucket-washing" especially when there is a line. Just keep an eye out and if the place is pretty full, leave and head back at a later time. Nothing worse than someone scolding you while you're trying to wash your car.....actually now that I think of it, getting boxed in by 3 SRT-4's on the interstate would be worse.

i think i know what you mean. i went to miami and i was looking for hours and i couldn't find one. The only thing they have down there are places where they clean your car and i don't like them the all.
