Rev limiter question

Does the rev limiter work when the car is in neutral?
I tried to bild boost while the car is stationary and in neutral and the rpm went up to 7000. I thought it would be pegged around 5000 rpm.

Thanks

Did you have the clutch pedal pushed down?

^Are you sure? I can't think of any sensors on the evo that tell the computer when the car is in gear. I think it has to do with whether the car has the clutch pushed in or not. There is a clutch pedal sensor for when its pushed down and then one for when its released and I believe that is what determines when the lower rev limit is engaged.

you have to comepletey stoped....and it should hit 5000rpm....unless someone changed it with a reflash...if i rember right you dont need to clutch pushed in or be in 1st gear....just stoped.

I'm 99% sure there is a sensor to detect if it is in 1st gear. Don't know where it is exactly though. Much like how other cars have sensors in the tranny to detect when it is in top gear in order to establish a speed limiter. eg. Nissan 240sx. The way they eliminate speed limiters with ease is by placing a switch on the cable that connects to the tranny for gear detection.

For 2-step to work:
- Stationary
- Clutch 100% pushed in
- First gear preloaded

The car is on up on the rhino ramp and I was testing for leak in the LICP I just put in. The car is in neutral and clutch pedal is NOT pushed in when I get the 7000 rpm surprise. I bought the car new last year and no reflash.

I guess either you have the clutch in and in 1st or at least have the clutch in to activate the 2 step rev limiter.

Thanks

I get that, but after first gear, when your shifting to 2nd 3rd and 4th and 5th and in some cases 6, does it still only rev till 5000 or 5500? or is it just in first or what?
