Radar\Laser Jammer
#166
I've had an 8500 and a 9500 (escorts) I loved 'em especially the 9500, the GPS built in is very nice and reminds you about the traffic light cameras. My 9500 got stollen but I will be buying another one when I replace it.

Gotta love the "I have never passed a cop I could not detect" statements. Guess they have really lazy cops and/or none of them have instant on. 10 miles to work and I almost always get clocked once, 50% of the time it is instant on. There is no point trying to go much more than 10 over around me, you can not beat instant on (unless you get lucky and pick up a scrap KA signal from a previous clock).
With that said, I would never be without detector. it will save you here and there and @ a bare minimum it lets you know that smokey is around when he leaves it on (which many do) and that you should not try for that yellow light, etc....
As for the V1 arrows. Very nice when you pass a cop with front and rear radar. Instantly know that he does when the arrows switch, but the strength is still way up (and # of radars briefly switches to 2 and you pass). Could you infer it from just having the strength of signal up before and after you pass, I suppose. The best part of the arrows has been mentioned. Highway and you keep getting short bursts from a cop "instant on-ing' on the highway. It could go on for a long time and no arrows means you don't know if he is coming up behind (bad) or you are about to run up on him (much better scenario IMO). Again, not absolutely critical and there are things like the GPS detector setups I'd like V1 to incorporate, but I would not want to give up my arrows to get other features.

its is illegal to use these devices as a means of avoiding a speeding ticket or any other traffic violation. the purpose of these devices is to be aware of emergency response vehicles in the vehicles and so that you may react accordingly so that you are not in their way if an emergency should arise.
now that we have that out of the way.
this past weekend i was able to do a side by side comparison of the V1 and 8500. they were both mounted right next to each other on my windshield. the V1 pickes up EVERYTHING. the 8500 didnt pick up some of the Ka that the V1 picked up.
there was one instance that they BOTH picked up Ka at the SAME time in the city and i was able to react. the vehicle in front of me ended up getting pulled.
i wasnt able to use the 8500 on the 2-lane freeways outside of city limits. but my buddy told me it saved him once today on his trip home.
i do know that the V1 rarely gets triggered on those 2-lane freeways. but when it does, its a good idea to react. i would venture to say it was close to a mile away when i picked up the signal. the cop was hiding behind the on ramp and i didnt see him until the V1 TOLD me it was beside me.
so thats my experience with BOTH of the devices. do i trust them both? yes. which do i prefer? the V1 (probably because i own it).
if it helps you avoid a situation that you dont want to be in just ONCE. you've pretty much made your money back to include insurance hassles.
BTW, the 8500 does come with some fancy packaging. reminds me of a jewelry box.
ohh, the V1 comes with a hardwire kit and i like that feature a LOT. the mounting for the V1 is a lot nicer has you can EASILY remove the device without messing with the suction cups, and you can adjust the angle of the device without bending any brackets (you just move the device forward or backwards).

Anyone know anyone with one of the old Scorpion K - Ka radar jammers. It was able to jam radar up untill about 300' from the gun which gave you time to slow down to the speed limit before the cop got a valid reading!
Its not illegal where i live!!
