The x50 picks up k better but once x50 and v1 detects k band it's already in a safe distants. When a cop is using KA it's harder to pick up and the v1 picks it up before the x50. Like I said I own a x50 the V1 is better. Oh and I've had two tickets with my x50 I guess it's doing it's job

Edit: The one time I got pulled over they were using laser (nothing I could do). Second time they were using KA and didn't get it until the last second.

So does anyone have the passport 9500i?

And what about a Passport 8500 linked to a Zr3 Shifter, that would be a pretty good setup, am i right?

Lol its not a biased opinion at all...get what u wanna get but v1 is will out-perform and def. has better range than anything out there...not to mention the upgradable option that u can send it for....but get what u want...just dont post when u get a ticket asking "how did that cop nail me?????"...ur answer will be right above ur head hahh

You should really read some of the comparison articles available on the internet, you'll soon find that the V1 is a damn good detector, but not the greatest device ever conceived by man. There are good alternatives out there that are marginally better in various categories.

http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090

Best overall performance BEL Pro RX65
Best instant-on performance - Escort Passport 8500 X50
Best POP-mode performance - BEL Pro RX65
Best windshield mount - Valentine One
Best visual displays - BEL Pro RX65
Best audible alerts - Escort Passport 8500 X50
Best laser performance - Valentine One
Best price/performance ratio - Escort Passport 8500 X50

Taking everything into consideration- if we had only to pick one radar detector to take with us on our trip, it would be the Beltronics RX65 Pro.

If laser was our primary concern, then we would opt for either the Valentine V1 or the Escort 8500 X50.

I had a BEL Pro RX65 for a few years and it served me well. Very nice detector with nice features and never let me down.

I recently replaced it with a V1. After using the V1 for a couple months, I see three distinct advantages the V1 has:

1. "Junk detector" alerts. Both the RX65 and the V1 pick up the errant garbage radio frequency emitted by bad radar detectors. This happens as you pass someone with a cobra or other poorly designed radar detector. Because it happens so suddenly, it usually makes you brake. The RX65 usually alerts with POP and leaves you to figure out if it is a real threat or just a junk detector. The V1 however will initially alert like the RX65, but after a few seconds can figure out if it is a real threat or just a "Junk detector." I LOVE THIS FEATURE!! It saves you from guessing.

2. The arrows. I know it's nearly cliche to say it, but until you use it you just don't know how helpful it is! If you have a detector and you wonder if you would like the arrows then ask yourself this:

When your detector goes off, do you instantly slow down until it stops beeping, or do you look for the source of the signal before you slow down?

If you always slow down and don't try to figure out 'real' from 'false' alerts, then you probably won't like the arrows. I do like them, as they keep me from guessing and allow me to quickly weed out false signals.

3. Value! Yes the V1 costs more, but have you checked out the going rates for used detectors? They hold their value VERY well.

Cheap cobra radar detectors have had arrows for years - ohhh wait, do they use patented V1 technology? lol. I'm sure if Escort, Beltronics, or any other mfr's wanted to use arrows they could.

While i agree that V1 and X50 (i have this one) are similar, and V1 maybe even a bit better (my friend drove around with both on the windshield for around a week and said V1 was a little bit better), i do not understand the fascination with the arrows... What do you care where the cop is, you'll slow down anyway.. Or do you speed up when he's in the back or take a left if he's on the right???!!! Seriously - arrows=marketing.

As a fellow owner of a radar detector I would much like to see any data you have collected supporting the V1 to be the the higher quality product.

KA on the other hand is harder to pick up and the v1 is better and quicker to pick that up than the x50. If your wondering why I haven't changed to a v1 well the x50 does it's job and is an excellent radar but the v1 is just better.

my x-fitty picks up Ka band easily...
