There are a few weight reduction mods you can do without sacrificing much drivability such as taking out spare+tools, lighter exhaust, mini-batt, carpets, and filling to half tank instead of full. Thats over 100 lbs lost right there.

What do I think of weight reduction? I think it is a good idea.
Would I do it on my DD? Hmm...maybe...probably because I love being surrounded by that "track car" feel. I don't know if it is really helpful unless you're in a track environment though. Actually, I'm planning on starting a 240sx SR20DET project car as soon as I move and I'll probably strip it all out and daily drive it.

I've noticed some people enjoying driving their cars around with them stripped out of carpeting and back seats, if so then enjoy it, but in a practical view for a DD I'd say strip it only when you want to rip it

for a daily driver it is normally not worth it. Amenities make up most of the removable weight and replacing parts with lighter versions is expensive+difficult.
Performance gains will be small compared to the amount of weight removed.
Also removing an unproportionate amount of weight in the rear can unsettle the balance of the cars handling.
Its the opposite of practical, but often worth it.

Negative on the weight reduction. My car is a comfortable car that I like to drive around and enjoy. Pulling sound deadening and carpet out of the car makes it loud and you can hear hardcore road noise. Sparetire & Jack, well... what about a flat. I'd like to keep my radio, PS, and A/C. haha This is just me though!
Good luck with whatever you choose.
