Transfer Case question

I have been having the death whine for a couple weeks now, started about 4 weeks ago after a trip to the drag strip. took it in to mitsu and their tech said he couldnt recreate the sound. so i went to pick the car up and i made it two miles from the dealer and the sound came right back. i took it back and had the service manager take it out and he said that sound is normal on evos. i found that kinda hard to believe since it had just started 3 weeks before that, and it NEVER used to make that sound at 55+. a week later i was out at Big Valley Performance in tampa and had one of their techs take it out, and he said it was def my transfer case going bad. so i opened a claim with mitsubishi of north america and am currently waiting on the florida tech to be in my area (tuesday). i have been driving the car a lot because it is my DD, and the sound has been getting worse (used to only do it above 55, but now starts at 30, 40 and 60+). But the problem is for the last 2 days i havent been able to recreate the sound. i will take the car all the way up to 75-80 and no whine anymore. ive tried searching for a cause but found nothing on the sound actually going AWAY. anyone have an idea why it would suddenly disappear? or if it really was the transfer case to begin with?
