I'm in the same boat, but I'm leaning more towards private. The dealerships just jack the prices up too much.

I went to the dealer because I wanted a brand new one, but otherwise you get bent over waaaay too much when you go to there. The only problem with private party is you have no idea how much the car got raped although same issue with the dealership. Overall its still probably safer to go with private party as long as its not a sketchy deal and you can get the car history easily.

when buying private party, might want to buy it from a member of an online forum - so at least you can figure out and do some research on what was done to the car..

Carfax from the stealership ain't gonna give you the same info

I say dealer the only reason is when I bought my car and found problems after I bought it and they sent me a check to repair the problems.

I went to the dealership and told them I was not paying more than X amount they tried and tried to get me higher than I told them, I ended up driving my evo off the lot for 6 bucks more than I told them I would pay. They can always get you where you want to be, they are lying if they tell you any different......

if id go buy a 2nd hand evo id do it via private seller. I'd look at some local evo forums and see from there. Just make sure you inspect it very well and take your time in deciding. also, try looking at a couple of evos first so that i can decide which is the best deal.
