so if you do not have the factory gauges, you will not have the wire.
That makes sense. Thanks.

Last time I jacked the car up, I don't remember seeing any wire coming from the oil pan plug... hmm... Probably just an MR thing.
From the factory, that plug is only on cars with the OEM oil temp gauge ... that's the MR and the RS, but not the GSR.

Ahh yes. I forgot RS models had the tri-gauge pack too.

Pretty easy to do. When I first started I thought one had to remove the undersplash gard under the front part of the engine to get access to everything for the change...You don't The thing is held in place by so many freaking screws and plastic pop rivits (not to mention the order of where to begin and how it goes together) it would take one an hour to remove and put back on, did I mention your on your back the whole time

Unless of coarse you need access to the center jack beam

Yeah; you can change your oil without even jacking up your car; both the filter and drain plug are easy to reach from the right-hand side.

It's only on the MR and the RS i think. Which ever comes with the stock gauges under the radio from mitsubishi has it. I have an SE and mine doesn't have a wire running through the plug.

I was thrown off when I looked underneath, and seen the wire coming from what had to be the plug. I came on the good ol' forums to make sure. Didn't want to take something off that I shouldn't.

Bump just found out this thread. I also did my first oil change and saw a line going to the drain plug. LOL. I was thinking what the heck is this line ? Took me awhile to realize this was the oil temp line. As I was under the car I tried to move and budge the line off of the drain plug but thought it was not a good idea and play it safe using a wrench. Was gonna make a new thread but searched on google and found this thread. Im gonna invest in a 19mm snap on box wrench from now on.

Yes the MR is the only model that came with that one you are talking about. It is a temperature gauge sensor. Just use a open end wrench to take it off and you could use a crowfoot to torque it.
