Question About HKS Intake

Just picked one up today, but my question is after talking to a friend about installing it he said that i should wait till im ready to get a tune because the intake messes with the cars idle and that the car could possibly stall out if im at a red light. i just wanted to make sure that this was 100% true and not just some rumors about it, but yeah any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated !

I was fine with mine for a couple of weeks until I got it tuned. I already had a TBE,FMIC,Walbro,MBC and a tune. I then added the HKS Intake later. I pulled 361whp ....which was up from 327whp. Sean noticed that it was slightly lean and adjusted it a little but could have left it there. It's always better to have the tune scheduled when you decide to do a mod but you'll be just fine. As for the symptoms your friend is talking about, it sounds like someone forgot to plug the MAF back in.

well do you plan on getting it tuned eventually? Try it out and see what happens. If you're gonna have problems you'll notice them right away. What other mods do you have?

Well if you're comfortable enough you could get away with running 20-21psi without the tune but again that's just my opinion. If you search around a little you might be able to find some more info on it. Any tuner will tell you that you should get a tune but you'll be fine until your ready. One suggestion though. I wouldn't do a bunch of boltons without the tune. I would either up the boost on the stock intake for now or slap the intake on at stock boost for a little more pep and some good sounds. It would be pushing it to do both.

You should only do that intake - and those other mods - along with a tune. The tune is the most important mod of all and is worth all those other mods combined times 5. I suggest finding a local tuner like Sean Ivey (Import Junky's tuner), or pick an Internet tuner to help you out. Get the tune just as you put on those mods - do them all together for the most power and reliability.

Schedule an appointment for a tune at a reputable shop and just have them install the intake at the same time. You'll get the most power that way.

That's not the way to approach it. You have to realize that the tune is the absolute most important thing, and it doesn't "pay" to wait around until you have all your mods. I would do a tune over all the other mods you have if money were a concern. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to do an intake and MBC without a tune, because you won't optimize your power, and you could potentially be unsafe. Yes, you will need a retune with cams, but hey may give a discount for repeat customers.
