I think top gear pretty much sums this up:

Honestly, its the understeer that is the Achilles heel of the STI

The X MR is so weak.. my old Rx8 was almost as fast...
I wonder if the VI would beat the VIII and IX (probably because it is lighter)
Would love to get myself a VI body with a IX Drivetrain (best of both worlds, weight and power)

Weak? Well, it wasn't designed to be a drag car, and the twin clutch transmission was safeguarded against rigorous abuse from drag launches, hence the high 13-second quarter-mile times. That's still quick though, still comparing favorably to any RX-8, plus its 1.01 g and 104-ft stopping distance is no joke. It deserves more credit.
Well, seeing how the VIs are either JDM or Euro-spec, if you pit one against a comparable JDM or Euro-spec Evo VIII or IX, it should be pretty close, despite Fifth Gear's test results of a IX against (what appeared to be) a slightly modded VI, judging by the exhaust.

thanks OP for the hard work.
The STi in Japan is actually pretty potent. They have the 2.0 liter. In Best Motoring, it bested the Evo 9. I was pretty disappointed, since the Evo over there was better with AYC. Oh well, I still like my car better than my friend's STi.
