Loud Exhaust! Help!

I had the same issue ... car was LOUD - with a HF cat still on it. When I put on a test pipe it went from LOUD to OMIGODTHEENDOFTHEWORLDISCOMING LOUD.
If I understand it correctly, the reason it is so damned loud is due to the tubular headers. I ended up redoing my exhaust this winter to address the insane drone in my car. I now run a triple-resonated 3" exhaust (no muffler, no cat), and it's actually slightly quieter than the old setup (3" HF cat, 3" muffler). Best of all, the damned highway drone from the exhaust is gone. Unfortunately it has been replaced by the whine of the new rear diff setup, but that's a different issue ...
If I were to go for the ultimate in quiet setup, I'd probably go with the following setup:
- Mil-spec 100 cell cat
- 18" bullet resonator in the mid-pipe
- quietest 3" muffler (not sure whose is the best here, would have to do some digging)
