E100 in-home creater/pump

http://www.efuel100.com/

Not sure if this has been posted on here before, but a friend set it to me.....

So for 10k you can have a pump in your house that creates e100 from sugar. Sounds awesome, but look at a price for sugar, about $50 for 50lb, the machine takes 10lb of sugar to make 1gal of e100, so an evo tank is about 13gal, so it takes $130 for one tank of fuel, and about three days to make.... Thats with processed sugar, which is not nessary for this..... so using raw sugar would greatly reduce the price/lb of sugar......Might be possible then......

Still about a $10k investment.......
Crap! Ill stick with e85 out of the pump for now! But its nice to see people comming up with new ideas.........

Last edited by denver; Jul 9, 2008 at 08:54 AM. Reason: Put a disclaimer about the price of sugar based on processed sugar......

sugar is not 1 dollar per pound. Its more like .5 cents-.10 cents per pound. It comes out around 1.25-1.50 if you mix e85 for 105+octane fuel

I just did a quick google search, and came up with a link that had 50lb bag for $48.50 or something. But that is edible sugar......

You use raw sugar from the mill, not the table sugar, or stuff you actually eat.

The company will also give you "carbon credits", which help get the amount even lower.

One thing that is even nicer about this deal is that the government is offering a $5000 tax incentive for a setup like this, so you can think of it like it is only costing you 5k. I want to try it!

I wonder how much electricity it uses to process a tank of fuel?

E85 is made from corn, E100 from sugar. It is better because it isnt a corosive and cheaper when using the industrial sugar, like what is produced in mexico. The company even goes as far as setting you up with a wholesaler for the sugar.

I would love to do this. I wonder what MPG would look like compared to 93. For $1 per gallon if you used 2000 gallons of gas in a year you'd make your money back and you are saving the environment and its right at your house.

Between my parents and I we probably use well over 3000 gallons per year, hmmmm maybe I can convince my dad on this one.

E100 is just as actually more corrosive than E85, because its ethanol content is higher or more concentrated. It does not matter what ethanol is produced from, ethanol is ethanol.

I am actually considering purchasing a unit like this for the shop. I am curious about the power consumption, as well as how much it can make in 1 batch. Currently, I just keep 55 gal drums filled with E98 in a vented and grounded room.
