Question Whistle/Whine noise while under boost

Hey guys,

I am kind of a noob when it comes to Evo's, so I need your help. I just bought a '06 Evo IX MR from the BMW dealer a couple days ago and I have been getting a kind of whistle/whine from the engine bay while under boost.
Sounds like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_FXe...eature=related (not my video or car)

The car appears to be stock except for a badge on the back that says Dyno-Comp tuned. I am thinking that it is running lean because it was tuned with some upgrades and then put back to stock for trade in...

What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

video doesnt work

It could either be your t-case going out or the regular whistle that tubos make while spooling

I hope its the second =]

It's not abnormal for our cars to have a slight whine, specially in low gears, but if your only hearing it during boost, and not all the time, probably not your T-case.

you could buy a tactrix cable and download ecuflash and look at your rom and tell if your running stock maps by comparing it to a stock map

probably your throttle body leaking air, do a boost leak test and see if it's coming from your throttle spring located on you TB...

had this leak aswell as other newer Evo's. Changed the old gaskets out with WORKS apperture gaskets and no more whistle. The old gaskets only old 7psi while the WORKS hold 25+...

search.

+1 on the boost leak suggestion. Check all of your hose clamps, etc.

Sorry about that... It should be working now. It's definately not the transfer case. I drove a car that had that issue and it's not that with mine.

So, so far I have suggestions that it could be normal, or a boost leak... Unfortuantely I don't know much about these cars YET. Should I take it to the dealer? It is still under warranty...

Are you modded at all?

I would recommend try doing a boost leak test yourself before taking it into Mits, especially if you are modded.

If your stock, and your dealership where you live isn't a ***** (which is highly unlikely), then take her in.

Here is a guide on how to make the boost leak tester:

I just bought the car from a BMW dealer. Everything appears to be stock except for a emblem on the back that says Dyno-comp tuned. I am going to try and call that tuner and see if they keep any records of what, if anything they did to it.

I would say call the tuner and get as much info on the car as you can from him.

Use what you get from that, and I would recommend making that boost leak tester anyways.

It's easy, cheap, and you may need it down the line.

All else fails, take it in to Mits.

Keep us posted!

If the car is stock then there is nothing wrong with the car. When I bought my 03 and 05 they both made the whining or whistling noise under boost. It's from the stock airbox. A boost leak if you hear it is going to be very noticiable as a leak. But to play on the safe side get urself boost leak tested. But I'm going to say it's the stock airbox. It's normal

I really hope it is normal... as I said, I am a noob when it comes to these cars and I just bought it used a coulpe of days ago. So, I just want to make sure it is running right.

The thing that was bothering me is that badge in the back Dyno-comp tuned and if it was tuned to have aftermarket parts and then put back to stock, there might be some issues with that.
