Great fuel consumption improvement
I had noticed that my gas mileage has been kind of bad for quite some time. I've been getting 17~18 mpg in my daily driving. I even tried to drive more conservatively with inconclusive results.
Anyway, I had also hit some pretty nasty potholes and curbed my car a couple of times. After the last pothole which was rather nasty, I thought I noticed that the alignment was off a little bit. I took it to a nearby Firestone tire store and had it aligned. They said the front end was off but the rear was OK. The car felt a little better and I was happy with the alignment ($79). The big surprise was that at my next fill up after the alignment, my mileage went up to 21+ mpg ... That's about a 16% improvement in fuel consumption . I checked it again and got the same 21+ mpg again. The good news is that I did not drive it particularly easy either....
If any of you have noticed a drop in mileage, I'd suggest checking your wheel alignment.
Cheers

Yes, excessive idling will definitely affect mileage negatively. I guess cold weather causes ppl to let their cars idle more and thusly affect their mileage. I don't think this is the case with me because here in Atlanta it has not been cold enough to let the car idle for quite a while. Anyway, the change in fuel mileage was coincidental with the alignment.
