EVO Gas Mileage MPG miles per gallon -- Merge
#227
Yep I get about 240 if I fill it up but never 280. I need an exhaust and a fuel computer. That should help with gas mileage. But you arent alone the tank is small and we dont gett much better than 20-22 mpg.

Well below 200 per tank sounds like either a definite problem with the car or a constant rush to redline and/or not shifting up while cruising. It amazes me how many people test drive and never go to 5th gear, even when we're cruising down the freeway a few exits worth. That's people who drive a stick all the time so I can only presume that's their normal driving style. I'm sure their mileage sucks.

I usually get areound 22-23 MPG, but that's with a few bursts up to redline and fairly long warm up and cool-down periods. I have gotten as high as 28 MPG.

That's a lot of miles in 6 months. I'm looking at a change that will drop my commute from 40 to 20 round trip. At that level I can think about an Evo and not go broke feeding it. I can also live with the TOO SMALL gas tank and moderate mpg.

On stop-and-go traffic, like normal streets, I get about 200 miles per tank. And I push the car. On the freeways, I get about 320 miles per tank.
It makes sense if you see how the AFR and boost control works during each type of traffic. There's nothing you can do about it, unless you change those parameters in the ECU.
The price of having a high boost turbo car: high mpg.

Thanks for the replies on this topic. I drive to work at 5:45 AM every morning, with no traffic and get horrible gas mileage, even though I'm too tired that early to go above 3K. I put gas in last night, I had gone 175 miles on 9.7 gallons in the past 5 days or so. That averages out to about 18 mpg driving like an old man. I only have 2000 miles on the car, but I was getting better gas mileage when I first purchased it. I know this is a performance car, but my corvette got better mileage than this. I think I'm going to get an xede and just make a low boost map or something. I'm just getting frustrated with pulling into a gas station every 3 days or so. thanks

the dude, I'd take it in and get it checked out. That sounds too low for your driving style. Maybe they can find something that will take care of it for you. Good luck.

I'm hurting too, filling up only after 200 miles. And this seems normal for the Evo, especially after some milage. I noticed the exact same thing after 1,000 miles. But that's what I paid for. Corvettes are different type of a car; a muscle car. It can go well with lower octane fuel because it has straight-up V8 power.
Reflash or piggy-back system is a very good option here.
