Since our small fleet consists of my EVO and Mrs Jim In Tucson's Prius, I feel qualified to make this test.
This is an apples to apples comparison of our 2nd generation Prius bought new in 2004 with my '03 EVO VIII bought used in 2006. Both cars are used for the same type of in-town driving, lots of short errands, etc . My wife's office is in our home and my office is just three miles down the street. Neither of us use the freeway.
Wifey consistently averages 47mpg in the Prius. Bone stock. Silver-the fastest color! No mods. Wingless.
My '03 EVO VIII... Silver-the fastest color! A few mods. Wingless. ...I switched to E85 in July '08. Since then it averages a fairly consistent 13.9 mpg.
Whoa, you're saying. Jim, that does not sound better than the Prius.
Think about it. Title of this thread says "gas" mileage, not fuel mileage. Remember, E85 is only 15% gas and 85% renewable ethanol.
You need 6.66 gals of E85 to have one gallon of gasoline. So, my EVO is getting 93 miles out of every single gallon of gasoline.
Prius = 47 mpg of gasoline
E85 EVO = 93 mpg of gasoline
The moral of the story: you can drive a fast car and still make a small carbon footprint.
So, next time you see someone in a Prius, stick your head out the window and yell at them to stop wasting gas and buy an EVO!

Gotta love it!

But what about the oil consumed in the process of of turning the corn, sugarcane etc into ethanol?

I drive 50 miles round trip everyday to work with 20 miles of that on the Freeway. If I'm smashing the pedal a lot, I get about 20 MPG. If I drive like a grandma and maybe hit boost on the on ramp, I get about 24 MPG. Quite a difference from my T28 turbo'd Lancer OZ I use to have. I still got 33 MPG with it and I had cruise control!

Miles
I had 174 mile on mine. It was a locate from another dealer across town.
As far as gas mileage, I used to get about 300 miles to a full tank on 92 octane. After switching to E85, I'm getting about 240 miles. Ofcourse, it's much harder to contain myself and drive nicely with the E85. It's worth the sacrifice.
So I used to get about 21mpg with mostly freeway driving and 17 now on E85.

Suffering Fuel Economy?
Hi Guys,
I filled up the gas tank with 94 octane on Friday night.
Starting on a full tank, I had a three trips through out the weekend for a total of 75miles (100% city driving). Now my gas gauge/meter is at the halfway point! Is this reasonable?
My 05 evo is the 5 speed gsr with ssl. I had a exedy stage one clutch kit installed 500 miles ago, but still have to break it in yet. Having said that, I've taken it easy on the car since the install. The car is bonestock but Im the second owner.
I havent pulled a map yet since I got it. Do you guys think the car is off? I owned the car for 4 months now and I could tell that the car wasnt stock before. At least, the previous owner had an aftermarket intake and tbe (i could tell from the intake box that its been messed around with+rear bumper has a modification to accommodate bigger pipe). Also, the two step is set up higher.
Could I be driving the car out of tune? Will it help if I pull up a map to find out?
Inputs please! Mods, please move to a better home if I posted in the wrong forum.
Thanks!
