I have driven in traffic to Vegas and back (490 miles), I commute and play. Mileage range 18 to 21. This is on CA 91 octane. I wish other respondents would include what gas they are using because I think that mileage is worse on 91 than it would be on 94 or whatever.

Another factor is winter gas. They put sulfur and some other crap in there in the colder climates....that might be what you're seeing as well. 15mpg is still a tad low, unless you're burning rubber from light to light....however 22-25 sounds pretty reasonable for a 5spd AWD monster with close to 300hp.
Perhaps if mitsu put in a 6th gear?

I get about 200 miles per tank, with a lot of short-trip driving. (But hey, there's under 5,000 miles on my almost-a-year-old car.)
RPM at a given speed and gear for a given car (all Evos, for instance) is always going to be the same, unless you have non-stock-diameter tires or a badly slipping clutch.
Fuel consumption is going to vary a lot for the Evo based on speed, because the car has the aerodynamics of a brick. (Cd is 0.36.) So the faster you go, the worse your mileage will get, and it's going to get worse quickly. I bet if you lower your speed by 5 mph, you'll get noticeably better mileage.
I do know from experience that fuel mileage is -- shall we say "slightly higher" -- when you're on the gas a lot. Try 7 mpg for my track day use.

I am guessing that my low gas mileage is a combination of factors. We only get 91 octane gas just like CA, I have a very short drive to work 3-4 miles, it has been cold so I was letting it warm up for a few minutes before driving, and maybe winter fuel mixture. I did switch brands of gas this week to see if it makes a difference and now I am not warming the car up as long. I do not really drive it to redline every light but I do on occassion (I just can't help myself).

I was attributing my lousy mileage to the turbo-timer. If you are making short trips and letting the car run for a minute after you walk away the mileage is lousy when you aren't moving. My trip to Vegas showed that the mileage was bad even hopping two hours at a time. I am going to reset the computer and check mileage as soon as the dealer gives me my car back.
