The needle's not that accurate. It could progressively go down faster on the bottom half. That's what my toyota used to do. It would barely move at the upper half, but once you got to the bottom half, it rocketed down. Then I could linger on empty for another 60-70 miles.

Well prior to the engine rebuild and tune.. at the same level after 60 miles I was already down to a 1/4 tank.

I am currently at 320 miles and my needle is just a couple ticks past 1/4 tank...I think I'm probably gonna get to 335-340 or so before my gas light comes on.

I do mostly highway driving, cruising at 75 or so....Can't beat a 333whp car getting 28+ mpg on the highway.

What are your mods?

My stock '03 barely gets 215miles to a tank, and that is driving it like a grandma.

Intake, TBE, 272/272 cams, 255lph FP, boost controller, reflash

The worst I've gotten is 191 or so before the light came on...and that was flogging it as much as I could. I could always manage 250-270 stock (before light). Now it seems 290-300 is going to be very easy.

I'm keeping my shifts below 3k and staying out of boost.

I think if any of the tuners could alter the part throttle tune for the better yet still offering performace under load and WOT settings with a flash they could make a load of $$$ and allow most cars even with cams to run 28-30MPG with our feet off the floor...

I would do it right now as it would pay for itself in a few weeks... I don't think this is too far out of reality as most tuners are not altering these settings from stock from what I understand. Dave, Mark, Al, Shiv, anyone willing to comment here on what you have done or can do? Dave has me thinking about an AEM just for this reason.....

ya but if Al could flash an ecu at part throttle for the $200 it costs for the flash, rather then the $1000+ it costs for the AEM EMS, then that would obviously be worth it.
Thats awesome that people are getting such good gas mileage with cam, tbe, and a flash. I cant wait to put on my mods this weekend now. 333whp and over 200 miles to the tank is all i need. thanks for the help ANJAPOWER. thats awesome!

Do an engine swap with a Lancer motor! I'm sure it'll be 35+ mpg and 87 HP?! ;-P JK

I'd shift quick, stay away from any cold air-intakes, bigger turbos, ecu, bigger fuel pumps / injectors etc. etc. HP = more air + more fuel. Keep it stock and feather the throttle when you drive.. maintain constant speed and use the highway versus city streets when possible.... just my two cents. I've been going very easy on the right foot and getting 100 miles in 1st 1/4 tank of gas! Usually its around 60 miles when the foot is heavy.

Did you see the news item where some pump in VA was charging $5.89 / gallon? Yikes!

How the hell do you do that? I cruise at 65 on the highway and get around 280 to a tank!

Isweetoz - dude, believe me, you can go easier and pull 100 miles out of the 1/4 tank. The key is to be consistent and resist the urge of flooring it at anytime during that tank of gas!
