THATS BECAUSE MR'S have a different gear ratio (6 speed ) look at the specs the MR is rated to have lower MPG IN THE 05 ALSO.

Mivec will help with gas mileage, just like VTEC helps with mileage.

When designing a cam, you can either have high rpm power or low rpm torque and thats the only way it works. The cam(s) pretty much dictates your motors powerband. Our market demanded the best of both worlds and in 1989 (I believe) vtec came around.

When not in Mivec, Vtec or whatver you'd like to call it uses a cam profile setting that is for economy. By adding variable valve timing (mivec, vtec) you can allow for a cam profile that is for economy when you drive economical. When engaging V.V.T. it uses a much more agressive cam profile which makes great power. But the really agressive cam profile will run like crap in the lower range and vise versa. V.V.T. isn't for power, its so you can run the cams that are agressive in the high rpm range efficiently, while still having a liveable economical car.

For my first three tanks in my evo IX, I have gotten 19.5 mpg and that is 50% highway. Hopefully, I will stop letting it rev so high.

293, mostly highway. I now believe those tha say they got over 300, but it would have to be 95% highway. Even at this I almost never went over 3500. it wasn't alot of fun, but its alot better than getting 190 miles per tank.

How do you people even hit 250? My best was like 210! Then again, I do a lot of city driving, so that pretty much explains it.

Just drove my Evo IX from Denver to Vegas today.
Averaged 22.5 in the Rocky Mountains
Averaged 24.5 across Utah
Averaged 25 down I-15 into Vegas (mostly downhill).

Damn nice car though. Glad I bought it!

The mivec will only help the mpg on the highway as the car hits boost early around town so it doesnt work like the vtec works.

Buy BMR EVO IX The Next Evolution Vol. 16 DVD if you would like to see all the changes to the engine and turbo first hand. The Mivec and turbo changes do make the car more efficient. The turbo spools up much more efficiently due to a, first of it's kind, magnesium blade. It is a great video!

After 1,400 miles I am getting 20.5 MPG in my IX MR. This is a mix of approx. 70% freeway balance street.

I just drove to Martinsville, VA for the Nascar race 2 weeks ago and it was my first real highway mileage test for the car...I got 26.5 mpg on the way down and 27.5mpg on the way back which I was extremely pleased with...Since my old 03 s-10 zr2 only got 18-19 highway....Driving to work im on highway for 10 miles and country road for 12 miles and I get 20-23mpg driving depending on how conservative I am
