is the 4B11T a better motor?
Just was browsing through the X forums and saw someone make this comment " the 4B11 is a better motor "... seems sort of stupid however considering the 4G63 has been around for a lonnnnnnnnnng time and the 4B11 has yet to be proven through years of racing and daily driving by tens of thousands of cars...
what's your take?
what's your take?

I agree with you... the 4B11 has yet to prove itself. The 4G63 has been modified in so many ways and has taken so much abuse. I'm sure the 4B11 is a great engine, but only time and mods will tell just how great it is.
#3
I think you'll find that X owners will tell you it's a better motor and VIII/IX owners will tell you the 4G63 is a better motor. Of course, "better" is so subjective that the argument is ultimately meaningless.
#4
I'm looking for completely unbiased opinions, so hopefully i'll get that, although I know it's hard to be that way.
#5
Im still amazed at how much abuse stock block 4g63 motors can take.
I wouldnt say the argument is meaningless, for people looking to modify their cars, the more reliable and stout set-up is the way to go.

4G63T is a a proven engine. The 4B11T is not. How could be ? 6 moth's ago came in the US.
But it has it own potential already.
Broken road course record already, and how many actually is racing or tuned yet?
Everybody is waiting for the developments. So i think you will see more build car next summer.
AMS is working on it too. Someone responed for me before:
"The Evo is suppose to be a rally bread, road going car that can perform for minimal cost. The original formula(1992) was for Mitsu to take their most performing engine(4g63t) and mate it to their lightest capable chassis(lancer) and go racing for cheap."
so according to AMS :
"Hahaha we have a prototype kit running right now for durability. This is using a Tubular manifold not a cast as the cast header takes a while to get back from casting.
So far the results are GREAT! At only just over 25psi with a bone stock long block (stock head studs, cams…everything) the car is making almost 500whp on 100oct. 100 octane was used to create a nice safety margin since the 4B11 is relatively uncharted at these levels.
Still with a simple tubular header and not our much nicer cast version the car is making CRAZY HP with just simple bolt on AMS Parts.
Did I mention an EVO X with close 500whp on a 30R is RIDICULOUSLY FUN TO DRIVE!!!!
Eric"

so i think to get 500whp on the x is seems just as cheap as before. and 500 whp for most of us is more then enough. And you don't even open the engine up vs 4g63T.
But who knows yet? I don't think i'm Nostredamus as some guys do...
So for me right now, as it stands today, is still the ultimate engine is the 4G63T.
But you got to give credit where it belongs.
But it has it own potential already.

Sounds biased for him, of course. It is an easier self defense to call someone biased...
Many people don't post, but they read the posts. So those who have opinion ,but no actual knowledge behind it can miss lead the rest of them.
As far as i can see the biggest image damage on the X,is done by its own community .
Which is weird.
I dont even know why they made for the X its own forum. Defenietly make a wrong impression on people.
With that logic we should have a 1-3 : 4-6 : 7-9 forum...
There is a lots of differences between them too. Just because the X got new engine.. If the engine is matters that much then we could have an Eclipse section too.
i think its time for you to move on and try to understand what im saying , without being personal. It is more beneficial for everyone.

I would have to say ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
Look at what the 4G63 has done its around 25 years old and is sooo strong..
galant vr4s, 1g, 2g evos 1-9.. i mean com on.. NO WAY 4B11 will never own up to its elder!
bad move by mitsu.. its funny how they say replace the heavy iron 4g63 with a new lighter aluminum 4B11 BUT THE X IS HEAVIER!!!

Here are a few useful reads about the technical aspects of the 4B11. It may provide more useful than anecdotes of power output:

Better in what way? Cost production? Power output? Longevity? The 4B is a cross platform motor much like the vq within the Nissan family. Mitsu does it part to make sure the 4B in the evo is much more stout and effecient. I like how the 4B is a much more tighter packaging. It has a much cleaner look and allows for more room in the engine bay to work on the car. I always compare the 4G 4B battle to the B series and K series. Each motor has their pros and cons.

the 4G63 is not 25 years old
it is 21.
The 4b11T engine is lighter then the 4G63T.
The X as a car is heavier, because the safety standards in the US.
That why wasn't evo sold in the us as an 07. If you doesn't noticed.

I'm sure mitsu is gonna refine it(as well as the whole X) after the first bugs start to show.
The big question is can it take the abuse of big boost like the one it replaces reliably without popping? Only time will tell and you need to stop taking offense to people saying that the X has limits just like the 1-9 did.
We are not against the X but are trying to tell X owners not to let their passion for their cars mislead them into thinking the car is the best performing evo ever made, when it's not. (I replied your post on EVO NY forum and expect us get together sometime for some motorsport activity of your choice, let me know)

2.. yea i said that already
3... no i doesnt notice anything
you dont have to get moody cause u have one.. we all know the 4G is better

i for got you quote you Max...
"Rob, the 4B11T is on paper a more modern engine than the 4g63t but has yet to pass the test of time and heavy modification like the the 4g63t did.

we far from there to say the 4B11 is reliable. AS i stated in my post in here. As i did say, as today is stands the 4G63 is a better engine.
But the refinements are in progress from day one when the evo 1 came out.
And didn't stopped yet.
I got attack from both side believe me . On the X forum they called me a X hater.
Because i point out the X draw backs vs earlier versions. The hardest ones the ex STI owners
This is just because i'm maybe not biased?
And on the side note as far as i can see the NEW evo /X/ owners are the ones who think they car is invincible. But sadly this is true for the 1-9 owners with the first evo in hand.
Not so much from others.
The thumb of rule in the Evo world, That evo is faster which have more modification done to it.
It is simply is that.
The X got big fuss because it is badly tuned for performance , but good for reilability.
Loosing the 1/4 mile road track .
Gained weight to pass the safety standards.
But to selll the car for public road , you need to pass certain level of safety. And MMNA had to do it.
And it is better car for dd with not much performance draw back. So they did a great job to start a new platform.
For the track? on the track you will not run stock car anyway, so there is a Evo rule of thumb comes back.
The fact the matter is, this new car is acceptable for the safety and environment standards . The earlier are not. This is why they cant sell it is 07.
So for us is a good thing they didn't stopped the production as a Toyota did and some other on they own production.
As soon as i got tuned i will shoot you PM. I'm not driving in HPDA by the way. Or i think i dont.
