No problems = no problems yet? Try 2 dozen dragstrip launches, VERY spirited back road driving (weekly it seems), and almost 5k miles. My clutch is perfect.

regardless if you race or not , the clutch on a 30,000 dollar car should not be so weak(or poorly designed). unless your rich ,you buy cars to last with reasonable use , right? i have heard almost all of the arguements for the premature failure. i understand that an allwheel car is a different animal ,because if the tires don't slip something has to. so, why aren't other allwheel cars having the same driver error/abuse problem? is this the only all wheel car getting abused? admittedly i am new to the sport compact scene(coming from a 2001 WS6 Trans Am 6 speed), but i beleive that 
should investigate this problem and keep the customers happy. i think most people bought this car for its all around performance. if it is a performance car it should be able to handle performance driving , barring abuse of course. i'm finished ranting now

Sorry to dissappoint you here but I have 9,000 miles on my car and around 30 passes at the drag strip and have no problems whatsoever. If the clutch starts slipping around 11,000 miles or even slightly prior to that, IMO it has served me well.
Every car and every driver are different so let's not go making generalizations about this.

I still believe that the clutch issue has a lot more to do with the driver, than the clutch itself.
I'm not going to argue the skill level of any of the drivers here, but with the majority obviously not having a problem, it's not a poor clutch issue.

13k miles of daily traffic stop and go driving......which is really hard on the clutch, a few days of road coursing (300 miles worth appx), countless street *enounters*...... but my clutch is perfectly fine without a hint of slippage.

I bet in a few more thousand miles alot of these people are going to be *****ing about their cluches going out prematurely hahaha
Sorry the stock cluch is super weak, and poor design.. Mitsubishi's response: Deny ALL warrenty claims. Sorry they even know they screwed us.

That to me shows that it's not a design flaw.

I used to be a big drag race guy, but I'll be a forum guinea pig to not launch the car and see what kind of life I can get from this clutch. My car is young, but I've never smelled a burned clutch yet, and don't want to.
I drive really clutch-conservatively on the street: Never leave it engaged or on the floor while waiting at a red light, NEVER ride it on a hill, and I've never launched it from standstill. Third has always felt a bit notchy, but several have told me their car is the same way, so I'm not really worried about it. I really think the car can handle redline-throttle lift-clutch full engage-shifts with ease for a long time. I guess time will bear this out.
This isn't my first AWD car, and I learned the hard way on my last one. You guys that have lost clutches can count yourselves as lucky, because I destroyed the entire input shaft and first gear on my WRX's transmission at 6000 miles about a year ago. Live, learn, adapt, and go on!

Maybe not eveyones was a mitsu failure, but mine sure as hell was. I broke it in 1,000 miles NO luanches, I drove around about 500 miles everyday driving, I took a 1,000 mile road trip (highway driving) then my clutch ,flywheel, throw out baring, and a few misc items all had to be replaced at 2600 miles. That was with 5-6 5k launches. thats it. There was no time for driver error because it all happend so fast, and with highway driving too.
So don't lecture me and say its all driver error. I am not saying all the clutch's are bad, but I do think their was a bad batch possibly. I have 1 k on new clutch, no launches or even spirited driving. The new clutch seems completey different than the last. Its really graby and jerky, I have also smelt it burning once already and I was just casually pulling out of a place. I don't know maybe some people just got a bad one or somthing. That DOES happen from time to time.
All you people who keep claiming that its all driver error, I am going to laugh when yours goes out and your *****ing. Their is no need to flame people becuase they are upset that they have to spend ALOT of money on a 30,000 dollar car.
For those of you who have had better luck more power to you, but I know for a fact that with basically 2,500 miles of highway driving mine went out. there is just NO reason for it. And the fact that mitsu won't stand by there product should outrage more of you than it does.
As for the street racing comment, like I said You can make some one look pretty stupid from a stop light just going up to the speed limit. In doing so not breaking ANY laws. 13,700...I thought my clutch was going to give up at around 10,000....but still going....who knows? in normal cars I would expect at least 30,000-40,000 out of a clutch...I guess this is what Mitsubishi meant by "more maintenance required than normal cars"
