I have 18k and no problems with my clutch. I've never even had to take it to the dealer yet.

Some people may abuse their clutch some don't and they still have new clutchs by 2k. For a 30,000 car thats horrific. You don't see these probs with vettes, ta's, ss's, and cobra's and they are just as fast. And know it does not depend on Just how you drive..

sorry, this rant is for the people who drive thier evo's like ford escort's

That stock clutch is a softy. I'm not HARD on my clutch, but I don't ***** it either. The stocker went out @ 33,000k miles, no big deal.

mines on its way out at 20,600...did some stupid thing scould have lasted easily 30k

as far as that Sano post, who says you have to buy a fast car to drive fast? I cant tell you how many vette's i see driving below the speed limit. Some people buy the car for looks, some people buy the car for its stock power, some people buy the car to mod it, some people buy the car to track it, some people buy the car to drag it, some people buy the car just because..

Thats like saying for those millionaries who buy houses and dont use half the rooms, blah blah blah. There is no right or wrong thing in life when it comes to something you want in a legit and legal sense. So, i dont see what the problem is? You drive a 1000hp car the speed limit, good for you. Who cares?

amen brother. we all drive hard now and then, but the guys that think they are all 'i drive hard all the time' are kidding themselves.

if i drove my evo hard all the time i would be in jail within 10minutes. I"m a 20 yr vet of roadracing and such. and i find it hilarious of what some people think is 'hard driving'..

Okay, kinda sick of hearing people thow comments around like this. I'm sure that SOME of the premature clutch failures are due to abuse, but don't generalize.

Need to lean how to launch the car? Hmm...since 1997, 10+ AWD DSMs, countless customer cars, and several of my daily-driver DSMs putting down more power than my stock Evo, and the stock clutches lasting upwards of 100,000+ milles (the one lasted to 160K, and then just required a new disc--pressure plate and flywheel were spotless), I'm thinking that the slipping clutch in my BONE STOCK '03 that I've NEVER launched and driven aggressively only a handful of times might be pretty damn weak.

No, I'm not saying that I've never smoked a stock clutch. What I'm saying is that I've never smoked a stock clutch on one of my daily-beaters that I've driven remotely as gently as this.

The Clutch is weak. Some of you may get good mileage out of it. That doesn't mean that everyone who's clutch failed is lacking the experience needed to drive an AWD car. Mitsu was smart (from their view) and stuck a weak clutch in there to try to preventy driveline warranties. Not a secret.

It's a win-win situation for them. They don't replace the clutch under warranty (like brake pads, windshield wipes, tires--they're "wear items"), and get to hose you for $600+ for a clutch job. Oh, and if you toss an aftermarket clutch in there, we'll void your warrranty on your complete driveline. (I.E., 2G guys and thrust bearing failure caused by their aftermarket clutch--funny, a lot of cars that came into the dealership with crankwalk didn't HAVE aftermarket clutches--and some of them no clutches at all! (Automatics)).

I'm beginning to think "Eff my warranty" as they'll try to weasel out of it and just go to town with the mods. I worked at a pretty well-known (nationally) dealer for 6 years and saw this happen quite a bit. Some of the warranty denial was called for, some, was just plain weaseling.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the Evo in question here has just turned over 16K miles and the clutch is starting to slip.

but remember, who replaces the clutch and for what price? tommi or mitsu?

stock with 21k miles & around 30 or so passes down the 1320 and no signs of slipping yet. I am pretty easy with it cause I know mitsu made it the weakest link.

25200 miles on stock clutch. It gets kinda choppy when engaging when it's cold out, but it shows no signs of slipping when I nail the throttle. Never been launched. Only 1 start off at about 3k with light throttle and slippage. I've burned it twice, once in a parking garage going uphill behind a stupid-a$$ 4runner who couldn't make up his mind, other time was getting into my garage, I just plain screwed the pooch on that one. I'm expecting to get about 40k out of it.

I got 40k out of my stock clutch. I launched it a few times, burnt it going up ramps into parking garages and so on. It was still holding strong when I swapped it out. And the only reason I changed it was b/c was replacing my tranny under warranty. I figured, why not do the clutch, labor is going to be free on the install.

I have 22500 miles on this clutch, but I feel that it won't make it to 30K. I hope that the transmission makes it.

update: 28K and going strong

Had some worries about my tranny this winter (diffs started locking up), but changed all the fluids and it's better than ever...

My clutch is still running strong and I have 21K miles on the dial. I've been to the drap strip once with maybe 7 passes.
