I would have to say that the idea of having an experimental theme would a great idea . Using yet another plane theme is also a great idea !! I would say to use the X-15 as the base for the theme . The X-15 was pretty much the first X-place to go Hypersonic ( mach 5 ) and pretty much set forth the space race . The plane came in a few colors during testing one was a dark green which if done right will look killer on a salt plains car . I think this wold be a great theme because of the significance of this build in taking the Evo to its limits such as the X-15 did back in the 60's .
Also this project being pretty much an X project it fits right in
Here are a few pictures , think about it and I'm sure you guys can make it work
Also it may be the ONLY GREEN in the desert !!!!!!
just an idea ..

Ya thats my thoughts on it too.
They havent done this aircraft theme and the color hasnt been done on any Evo in this type of simplicity.
I dont like orange really on cars but this orange is quite different and has a tinge of red all while having that classic 1 tone look.
Add the signature rivets and panel lines with some themed signage, insignia, and numbering and I really think you get something special that will catch the attention of ALOT of people.
I just pictured the car on the flats with the sun going down, and thats how I came up with the idea.
I thought of the space shuttle as well but alot of teams out there (at the flats, went out there for engineering trip in HS) use the basic white, black, red, blue tones, I just think that it would catch the attention of all, be different, and also be special.

We're talking about a Bonneville car here, and few things say Bonneville more than Burt Munro and "The World's Fastest Indian". Perhaps you've seen the Anthony Hopkins movie? Here's the history behind it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Munro
Herbert (Burt) James Munro (25 March 1899–6 January 1978) was a New Zealand motorcycle racer, famous for setting an under-1000 cc world motorcycle land speed record in 1967 which still stands - when aged 67 and riding a 46-year old machine.
Working from his home in Invercargill, he highly modified the Indian motorcycle for over 20 years. (Which he had bought in 1920) Burt set his first New Zealand speed record in 1938, but since then set 7. Burt travelled to compete at the Bonneville Salt Flats, attempting to set world speed records. During his ten visits to the Bonneville Salt Flats, he set 3 speed records, one of which still stands today
Here are some pictures.
It's far from the most exciting looking thing posted in this thread, but I think it's a really cool story. The guy set a record in 1967 that stands to this day, using a 50 year old bike at the time! And the car is red to begin with . Have the red look somewhat old/cracked. Black nose with a single black stripe outlined in white running down the sides. Paint the spoiler red and put another stripe down only its side, like on the bike's fin. Indian logo towards the front and yellow 35 towards the back. You guys could expand on the retro theme with white walls and hand-written AMS lettering, as has been suggested already.
