Grey two cars to cross-shop, they were the final two for me also.

I followed the S2000 for over two years and was never a big proponent of AWD (the regular WRX didn't impress me too much). However, I test drove the EVO as a goof and I was like .

As mentioned before, the snap oversteer was a big concern for me as I drive very hard in the twisties. The S2000 has high limits, but is not forgiving at them. Still, its got an exciting engine, killer gearbox, sexy looks and top-notch quality.

One thing that pushed me towards the EVO was that it was the best (or near best if you consider the 911 Turbo similar) of cars of its type (AWD, turbo) while the S2000 wasn't the best of its type IMHO (Lotus Elise).

I'm not a huge fan of converibles (at least in New Jersey) either.
Let us know how it turns out, either one is worth a .

That s2ki thread is EFFING HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

"Just remember - a Lancer with a souped up engine is still a Lancer...much like a neon with a souped up engine is still a neon."

What an idiot!

Yea, people don't understand that the Evo was out long before the base Lancers.

2004 S2000 Info

Im am trying to make the same decision between the S2000 and Evo. The new Motor Trend shows updates to the S2000 as follows:

2.2 liter engine same 240 HP but 163 lb ft at 6500 rpm vs 153 at 7500

Bigger 17" wheels

Revised suspension and gearing

New front and rear fascias and bumpers

Interior freshened w/ added space.

The bigger motor w/ more torque may really have a positive impact and the space cant hurt. The decision may be even harder now with these needed improvements in the Honda.

I've test driven both and really love them both but for me the s2k is only practical as a second car - as my only car it just wouldn't work I don't think.

In an ideal world (or if I had a rich G/F - which would be ideal, too), I would have both the Evo and my S2000 that I traded. Given one car for daily driving, blasting down canyons, coping with rain, etc. etc. ad nauseum, the Evo has to be the winner. Too many times the S2000 proved impractical even living in Cali, no matter how much fun it was. Not to mention the added confidence in fast driving I get in the Evo. Some of the corners I've devoured in the Evo would have put me in the hospital and the S2000 in the wrecking yard if I'd been driving the S2K...

I drove through a crazy rainstorm with a lot of standing water at highway speeds and the Evo stuck like glue. I feel very good about the Evo's stability even with the stock tires. I do have to say that the S2K improved considerably in the wet once I swapped the 16" S-02s for 17" S-03s.

One of the reasons I chose the Evo over the STI is cuz the Evo's 4g63 engine has been proven time and time again. It's pretty much bullet proof and has been used more than a decade.

Same here. Once I found out it was the 2.5L instead of the 2.0L in the STi, I changed my mind. Plus every article I'd read from the UK favored the Evo over the STi. I am happy with my decision.

I just got a White Evo today and sealed my S2000's fate. I'd been so happy with S2000 for more than a year as a daily driver even in a snow.
She's too good to let go and will make Evo a company in my garage for loooong time
