Mine has been broken since summer. I ordered the replacement knob just never installed because of time. It's not cold as hell in the mornings so until I find time to fix it need nose pliers have been my solution to this problem lol. for the knobs breaking...so inconvenient.

The day I bought my Evo I knew I had to perform the TSB about the heater control knob, and with my luck I had to replace the blend door flap. I took me about four hours and well worth it, especially on those cold winter days. I also got rid a little rattle I had in the dash board area. Here are some pics of the job I did.

I need to take mine apart, really not looking forward to doing it. Such BS that this is a common problem and theres nothing to do about it other than live with it or go through the hassle to fix it on our own dime.

Bah, mine finally gummed up enough that the plastic cable bent on me, just in time for winter. At least I've found myself capable of adjusting it with my foot...

But hey, I'd rather have this issue than have to replace ACD pumps!

Just look the the right of the accelerator pedal under the dash, there's a big white box with a weird-looking slotted lever off the side, that lever is what adjusts the blend door.

Pushing it away from you adds more heat, pulling it toward you adds cold.

Anyone know which cars have compatible units? Checkin' Ebay, I've seen (just from a fascia perspective) units that look identical but say they aren't compatible. Is there some difference underneath that is causing them to not be usable, or are they just saying this so you pony up the extra $$$ for "authentic" Evo bits?

look next to the gas pedal. it's a white piece that moves back and forth. if you wiggle the heater knob you can see or feel a cable connected to the piece where you'll need to push toward the front of your car or pull toward you. that's the control unit
