Car got broken into :( Advice?

Hey guys it finally happened today...Leaving school and going to my car around 2:30pm I saw my driver side window bashed in glass everywhere. They took my $200 Marc Echo watch and my remote for my pioneer deck (???) My deck and everything else was not touched thank god. Now, comes the point to where I call the insurance company. I have comprehensive and collision insurance at 21st century and was wondering if I should go through them to replace and install and possibly clean the glass from out of my car. My deductible is 1k. Thanks guys, this sucks!!

Unless you have over $1000 in damages. Then you will have to pay for it.

sorry to hear about your loss, but why are you parking your car and leaving
your valuables in sight?

I think this could have been prevented.

Some insurance companies have a "waived" or reduced deductable for glass replacement. I would ask them about this, they most likely will not volunteer that information. Also go to a reputable glass shop and have them do a written estimate, most will do it for free. Just to check and make sure that it is well below your deductable or that there isn't any hidden repairs that may be required. I know on one of my cars the glass is attached to the regulator with some crazy rivet looking system so I wasn't going to even screw with it.

Sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to my truck twice in one month. The first time they broke passenger side window and stole Jenson DVD radio, GPS, toolbag and my son's gameboy. I have Allstate with $500 deductible so I filed a claim. Total damages was almost $1000. I got the radio replaced with a new Jenson DVD bluetooth touchscreen $630 and once again it happened again less than a mile from the first brake in. The new radio that still had the plastic stickers on it was stolen once again. I contacted the police but not the insurance company. I'll take the loss. Will be installing the factory radio back in. Not worth the headaches.
