egr solenoid broke

egr solenoid broke
my egr valve broke! the nipples broke off and remain in the lines. its not on the throttle body side but passenger side behind the motor where the green and white lines attach. does anyone have any idea where to get one other than the dealer. or any other fixes that might be possible. also what does this system realy do.
