Unhappy 30k Mile Service

So I'm taking my 2005 VIII GSR in to the dealer to get the 30k mile service done. They said it would be around $600 for everything.

It's driving absolutely perfect so I'm a bit worried about them draining all the fluids and cleaning the injectors and everything.

Either way, I love my car and want to keep it running for a VERY long time.

$600 is a low price to pay for reliability.

NOTE: Please don't post a bunch of Dealership Horror stories...I'm anxious enough..

Just do the service yourself, that way you know its done right, assuming you know what to do on your own.

you should be able to find a local shop to do the same service for less than that. Also, most shops that are familiar with the EVO will do a better job and know what to look for better than the dealer that is used to doing Galants and Outlanders all day.

I agree with having it done at a well known shop, btw at 30,000 miles there isn't a real need to have the injectors cleaned if you are running quality fuel. I changed my injectors out at 45k to run ethanol and they were flawless.

If you have even a small amount of mechanical ability do yourself a huge favor and do everything yourself. Honestly it isn't that difficult and there are detailed write ups in the How-To section of this site. Let knowledge become your bestfriend.

Does anybody still have their owner's manual? I know I still have mine in my glove box and if I am curious about what services are due I can reference it.

Straight From The Owners Manual for 30k:

1. Check fuel system for leaks. (Tank, pipe line and connection, and fuel tank filler tube cap.
2. Check fuel hoses condition.
3. Replace air cleaner filter.
4. Replace drive belts (for the generator, water pump, power steering pump).
5. Check and service exhaust system (connection portion of the muffler, muffler pipes and converter heat shields).
6. Change engine oil.
7. Replace engine oil filter.
8. Change manual transaxle oil.
9. Change transfer oil.
10. Change engine coolant.
11. Inspect coolant hoses condition. (radiator hose, heater hose).
12. Inspect disc brake pads and rotors for wear.
13. Check break hoses for deterioration or wear.
14. Inspect ball joint and steering linkage seals for grease leaks and damage.
15. Inspect suspension system for looseness and damage.

These are all things that a person with common knowledge of a car can do...and guaranteed it will save you alot more money to just get the stuff and diy.

1) I have intermediate mechanical skills, but more importantly I have nowhere to do the work.
2) I lack funding to fix something if I break it.
3) Transaxle scares me.
4) Unfortunately the shops around here don't know a whole lot about Evos (Or performance cars). There are currently only three in town. There just aren't that many performance shops in town. (Central Illinois isn't like Chicago where I could go to large tuner shops.)

The $600 is a little steep, but honestly I don't mind paying to be sure it gets done right.

I know I'm a sucker for taking it to the dealership but I actually trust the guys there.

I guess I should also probably note that I really don't feel comfortable doing it myself.

If there were any shops in town that I would trust to do more than brakes and mounting wheels, I'd take it there....But there aren't any.

I bought the car at this dealership, the service guys are really sharp and really knowledgeable about the Evos. (I stopped by to check out the Evo X MR they had in the lot and a random service guy stopped and talked to me for an hour and a half about it) A salesman walked by and saw I drove up in my Evo and said "I'm going to spare you the sales BS because you probably know more about this car than I do, let me know if you wanna talk pricing." And went back inside.
