Why the big gap? Evo gauge install

I am trying to fit a standard set of Mitsi OEM gauges. My ride is a IX GT (import) which had a double din stereo fitted.

When fitting the mounting bracket i seem to have a large gap around the bottom and sides. Anybody know why?

Looks like you might need a 2-din surround trim piece. Like the ones you get with a 2-din nav unit. Maybe.

You are missing the trim piece.

There is a trim piece? The trim is a one piece unit so the surrond piece would be larger?
