Gears or No Gears??

Need some input. I currently have Fidanza Cam gaers on the car (set at 0/0). I am swapping out my HKS 272s with some 280s, and thought since I have them off, I can swap the stock gears on.

Is there any reason why I should just keep the aftermarket cam gears on? I've seen conflicting stories of whether or not it is of benefit to use these.

Let the debate begin

put the factory gears back on. if your not adjusting them all the time then why have them. im also very afraid that the bolts might one day rattle lose. i had a couple of buddies with 280s and stock gears and no problems.chances are that even after your tune you wont be changing them anyway.

With aftermarket camshafts you need to degree them to make sure theyre not mismachined before just dropping them in, and on stock gears. Check out the cam comparison by ams

if you have an 8, use them. they make a good difference when you get it tuned. but you have to mess with them, not just keep them at 0/0

if you are just keeping them at 0/0 id put the stockers back on. this way they cant come loose by accident, and mess all kinds of stuff up

Thanks for the info. Now I need to figure out how to degree them

Might just have to keep them. There are 5 lock nuts on each one, so I'm not too worried about them slipping. Plus, I've been running them for almost three years now.

Thanks for the input!

Adjustable gears are useful and can help you make power if adjusted correctly. Retarding or advancing the gears can shift the powerband and hp/tq peaks. If you already have them, why not get them tuned and dial in the car correctly?

Don't use them, don't like them... one of the fastest/quickest Evo shops will say the same thing. However, to each there own...
