Do you really need to be able to jack your car up 20" in the air??

It's not IF I'm going to use it, it's WHEN I'm going to use 20". Just nice to have the option; are you going to use 500awhp in residential areas? No, but it's nice having it :P.

PS. that TireRack one looks pretty nice! Going to check it out.

Check out sears. They have a low profile craftsman unit that was 120 and have been using it since 99. All my cars are butt nasty low as well.

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic at all with my statement. I was more pointing out that the key selling features for the much more expensive one are that it sits slightly lower and raises and extra couple inches. I didn't really think it would be worth the extra dough to have the jack go 20" into the air or sit an extra 0.75" lower. I think 3.5" should be plenty low enough!!

So I would think the decision should be between the Harbor Freight and the Tirerack one that you just added. I think the Tirerack one looks nicer than the HF one.

I like the looks of that tire rack jack. I have a sears aluminum low profile jack, and it leaks like crazy. I wouldn't recommend it.

Care to explain how the Harbor Freight one is garbage?

I have both the HF low profile alum jacks.

Lifted my lowered Evo on coilovers so many times over the past 3 years. No leaks or any sort of problems. I wouldnt think twice buying HF low profile jacks again. Plus they take back any tools with problems and give you a new one, no questions asked.

Actually I do think it makes a difference. I have a car with a kit on it and that .75" could be the difference between getting the car up and having to run over some plywood to get it up.
Also the higher you can jack up the car the better. There were times where I wish I can jack the car up higher because I wasn't able to get enough leverage to remove the bolt.

The jack should raise the car high enough to set it on stands so that you can drop the tranny out the bottom and slide it out IMO. That's usually about 16-20 inches depending on the tranny.

I got a HF jack which looks like the Tirerack one. 18" max height steel but not that heavy. paid 130ish I think for it.

And as for the low profile aspect of things, I'm gonna say absolutely. I work on Miata's all day longand have to always use two jacks. Even with a low profile jack, we had to remove the wheels off one jack, to lift the side of the car, to get the bigger jack under the front to lift it up. And that is with relatively stock height cars. Some of the cars come into the shop and are so low, we have to have 3 guys lift the body, to get it to clear the smaller wheelless jack.
