My exhaust uses V-Band clamps, so I dont think it would be the exhaust. Im thinking its more like the HFC/3"adapter... But what do I know?
I had a clutch put in a few weeks ago and I have the same clunking. In or out of gear when decelerating, or in gear when accelerating. However mine seems to happen only when the car is warm, and usually around 2k RPM.

I had the ACT HDSS put in and I can tell you this is definitely a lot different than chatter, and like I said above, this happens to me when hot.

The shop that did my clutch (AMS) spent two hours with me on tuesday trying to get this figured out. In the end, we thought we had it was a loose IC pipe hitting the frame when the engine, but that turned out not to be it. They checked everything else (tranny fluid level, transfercase fluid level) and there are no other problems, so I'm pretty sure nothing is just going to break. We did notice that the genius I got my car from thought it would be a good idea to grind a notch out of the transfer case housing to clear the exhaust , so it is possible that something with that is rubbing and we just didn't spot it earlier. I'm going to investigate more this weekend, will report back with results.

Mine does this same clunk as well when moving on uneven pavement, and starting or slowing down. It just went away on it's own maybe it was the weather but it's not doing it in the cold anymore. It drove me crazy in the Summer though.

(Sorta sounds like my HFC) Today I was slowing down to a light and it did it again when I engaged the clutch to put it in nuetral... First time I noticed it do it when I engaged the clutch. It doesnt do this all of the time! I had a buddy of mine listen for anything while I drove by, and nada... Seems like this goes away after the car has been driven for a bit...

any1 ever encounter this? Any ideas???

My car does the same thing and i only have 8k on my evo IX

So I have been driving around trying to pin point this issue... For me, it ONLY does it De-celerating @ 2500! Nothing under or over 2500. (exactly @ 2500) It does it in 1st - 4th (havent tried 5th)... And doesnt do it in nuetral.

So I was able to lift the car up enough to get under and take a "peek" at the DP (Works 2.75") Not a 3"! But I have a POS jack (lift is like 11") So I was only able to get under so far... The DP seems to be tight, but both of the tie bars are fairly close. So Im hoping its just in need of spacers... But if its the DP, why wasnt it doing this before??? I have had this DP for over a year... And only @ 2500!???

Update... Finally!

ok, so I finally got to a shop to inspect the car, and it was the second "Pesky Tie Bar"... The clearance was fine on the first one, but the second bar needed a spacer to give it enough clearance. This is w/ a 2.75" DP! I guess the 02/DP shifted a bit... It never needed spacers before!
Anyways, just wanted to post up the results. I know there are others w/ similar issues...
