For those of you who have an MR and want a roof rack...

I snowboard on a regualr basis during the winter, and usually have a few people with me, so I have a need for a snowboard rack on my car.

I had an existing Thule rack that came off my STi that I traded on this past year, so I figured I would just get the Fit Kit that goes with it. I ordered it, and it was left on my doorstep this morning. So excited, I opened the package and got right to work installing it.

As soon as I understood the procedure, I started, and there was a obviously a huge problem. The rain gutter on my car did not have the little groove to put the clip in. I called Thule and spoke to a rep that insisted up and down that this kit was the right one. I figured I was just retarded. The answer was simple. Evos with sunroofs have the steal roof with the ridge on the side. MR's and RS's are equipt with aluminum roof for weight reduction, and added stability due to the loss of weight up top. Anyways, the Aluminum roof isnt welded to the rest of the body (duh) it's pop riveted and sealed...kinda.

Anyways here are some part numbers, so no one goes through this nightmare of returning a re-ordering parts.

The stuff you DO NOT want for the MR:
Thule Fit Kit # 2041
Anything assosiated with Thule because they are biased against the MR!!! JK, but Thule doesn't make anything for the MR.

The Yakima stuff that YOU WANT!
Q102 Clips
Q83 Clips
48" Cross Bars
Q Towers
38" Fairing (Optional, but looks sick, and reduces wind noise.)

This may be old news to some, but I had to dig for it on here, and on the web. I just wanted to clear everything up so there were no questions, and no one has to go through the hassle.

Also, huuuuge to the boys over at Rack Attack of Farmington Mass for helping me out and pretty much exchanging my use Thule rack for a brand new Yakima rack for chump change. If you guys are looking onto this stuff, order from them.

could this kit be modified for a kayak? Washing my SE today with the aluminum roof, I noticed how flimsy the roof is...I wonder if it could handle the weight?

i posted this info in the roof rack thread last year. with links.

great that you got the proper parts. now go enjoy your new rack.

one thing i would recommend is to put some vinyl where the Q clips meet the side sil. i got a little bit of scratches last year from it.
