+1, There are alot of raped evos out there, spend the extra money to get a clean one, that is either stock or built right.

I would also recommend finding an 05 or above, has the ACD.

everyone keeps telling me to go with an 05 or newer, im sure its been posted a million times, but what exactly are the major differences, is it just the ACD?

I just got my evo 8 in July from a dealer up north(dont keep evos long down here in LA)well if you want acd then go 05-06 etc. To me it was the color(MOSTLY) and the intercooler water sprayer. anything else you can ADD from what i understood a evo 9 is basically the ACD and Mivec. Some say a evo 8 with upgraded cams and ACD.

Basically i wanted a STOCK EVO. so when i mod it i can do all the work and i know whats in it and when it was installed. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU KNOW THE QUALITY OF THE INSTALL. SO you know how new the parts are etc. Anybody dealer included can tell you i only put 4k on this turbo and suspension bump that. TO much of a risk. Again like i stated in another thread YOU NEVER KNOW THE QUALITY OF THE WORK DONE. unless you were there. do yourself a favor and get a stock Evo 8 or 9. of course do your normal checks. just remember anything can be fixed its all in do you want to do it and do you have the funds and time for it.

I can tell you how reliable a evo is. When i bought mine i had to drive 22 hours back to LA. Mine had a nasty exhaust leak. Cat was missing bolt. it was bent and basically open. Spark plugs were bad. causing the car to just feel like it was down shifting in 5 and it was missing a bolt on the O2 housing and downpipe only had on spring bolt. On top of all that dealer put the wrong gas in it 87. MY RIDE still made the journey no stops or anything. only thing that happen CEL light lol. I fix all those stupid problem and im modding away ever since.

03 evo with 38,xxx, mild modded running about 22 to 23 psi. Not a single issue so far. Like others said, make sure you find a clean one and you need to do regular maintainence (DIY will save you some $$). Good luck!!

125k here, no problems. I take her to 7k everyday. Just make sure all the fluid levels are right, and the fluid changes are done at the right intervals and you won't have a problem.

u take car of her, she will take car of you. just that simple. maintain the car and she will run all day. i have 340whp and run 24psi. car is flawless. 35000 miles and still runs mint. i take care of my car alot. washed 2 days a week, interior cleaned once a week, i do alot of research on mods before buying/installing them, and i dont beat the snot outta the car everyday.

^^ I'm pretty sure washing and vacuuming it will not benefit the reliability but whatever makes you feel better

The evo is more of a higher maintenance car than any thing. Leaving it stock and driving like a sane person should net you a long life car. But on the other hand, who buys and evo for that?
