evo reliability?

hey, im thinking about an evo for my next car, im looking at evo 8's cause i dont wanna spend more than around mid to high teens. ive gotten alot of mixed opinions on reliablilty, some people say they are extremely reliable, others say they arent very reliable at all, im coming from a b5 s4, i bought it for 17k and over the two years i owned it, i spent more on repairs than the amount i paid. so it really sucked. im sure an evo will be alot better, but i wanna know how much.

how much are you guys spending a year on maintenance and repairs, what are the big maintenance issues with these?

im not looking to do many engine mods, maybe just the basic's (chip, exhaust, intake) other than that it will be mostly all suspension.

this was just talked about a few days ago.... there's nothing more unreliable than a B5 S4, so you're in heaven no matter what you buy.

If it's still on the stock clutch/stock Transfer Case, then you're gold.

I can't brag on my car enough, not a single problem up to 55k miles even at 500awhp. The transmission 1st gear finally gave out at 600awhp. It's an 05 EVO 8

it's as reliable as what you want to make it. It will be reliable if you have parts installed and tuned correctly.

One main factor in the dependability of a car...thats how you maintain it...luck and make of car go next. Take care of your ride and she'll take care of you. I will say this. A good friend of mine bought his EVO VIII in 03'. Not a problem to this day. Two other Evo's in the family...one a cousins yet another with another friend all are problem free.

I have had awsome luck with my evo. Its stock with 76K on it . I Even Had the idle sensor replaced for free on a warranty just two weeks ago. Just had to rebuild the tranny at 45k (Which Sucked). Buit worth all the time and I do drive the hell out of it. Awsome car just need to maintain it. Hint DONT CHINCE ON TIRES

like any car if you maintain it then it will be fine. Maintenance can get expensive though.

i cant complain any of my evo.
Even with then , they where raced , tuned . So not one was stock.
For me a no1 in the reliable list.
My wife use german cars. The comparison is sooo bad not even funny.
So much about german reliability.

If I had to pick a weak spot I'd say it's the tranny. 5 speeds are better than 6 for the higher output cars. Synchro problems seem common on both though even on stock cars. Shep rebuild and an Exedy twin while I'm at it will be my solution. Won't be cheap though .

If you buy one that's been well taken care of you should be fine. Don't let people who don't know **** (aka people who think Evo's are DSM's ) tell you they aren't reliable. Just as any car, if the beat the **** out of it and don't maintain it, it WILL break.

Biggest thing is to make sure you find a car that hasn't had the **** beat out of it and well maintained. Then don't beat the **** out and make sure you maintain it and you should be alright. Pretty simple ha.
