Weight Reduction.
#61
Alright I just weighed the stock Evo 8 GSR suspension:
Front strut is 9.9kg or 21.8lbs EACH
Rear strut is 5.1kg or 11.2lbs EACH
If anyone has any aftermarket coilover lying around, would greatly appreciate it if you could weigh each strut and post its weight here. I'm curious how much would a typical coilover save weight.
I suspect the rear strut is already quite light (I can easily grab it in one arm) but the stock front strut was a heavy beeyatch.

also, several companies sell a lightweight battery (Including Buschur)

The stock exhaust weighs 34.8 lbs. I weighed mine on Tanita scale. So the Buschur does not save over 20 lbs, but 18.4 lbs to be exact.
I run the Invidia N1 Cat-Back and it has a resonator and it is relatively quiet and it only weighs 18.4 lbs.

Yes, use dry ice and hit the panel with a hammer when cold to chip the dynamat type material off the interior panels. I estimate I saved about 15-20 lbs on my gsx this way and the noise difference is negligible if you continue to use the factory carpet with the heavy padding.
Also, and this is a bit of a stretch for most, but if you aren't using a feature, like the ac sprayer, rear window wiper, ac system, radio, etc... pull the wires from the harnesses throughout the car. My wiring harness in my dsm is a shadow of what it used to be.
Taking apart the stock dash will reveal lots of formed metal braces that are apparently for nothing other than to provide added rigidity in the case of abuse. I've also used hole saws , tin snips, and air nibblers on my dsm to remove excess metal from the interior.
However, if you really want to get serious about performance, you'll eventually add in a roll cage, so be prepared to sacrifice weight in the name of increased chassis rigidity and safety. It's worth it.
