I agree, just rip the radiator out, not that hard

I just ripped it out! It's a few bolts and a bunch of liquid. It's easier once you get in there and start taking stuff apart. Just remember what bolts go where and don't damage the radiator once it's out

To go in order from your list, I would buy the ported 02 housing & 10.5 hotside so you can install it all at once then get the greddy camgears and HKS 280 camshafts.

Suggestion on the Camshafts - I would recommend Kelford, they give you the best whp for the money. Do a search, AMS did a camshaft test some time back.

Don't get "turbo outlet" and hotside confused. They are two different parts. If you have an aftermarket exhaust manifold, keep it. I'm sure it came nice and smooth.

I'd with him on the cams. Kelfords or Cosworth are the way to go.

Yeah I think I'll do it, My brother said I could have his old aftermarket housing since he got a new turbo kit. That thread I read about taking out the radiator out to change to housing wanted you to heat the housing up with a blow torch? Any relevance to doing that?

Yeah I'll probably do that also, but I like getting the communities direct inputs. 100 suggestions are better than 5 in my book. Thats just the kind of person I am though.

??? now i am confused or rather wondering. I thought kelford cams were Uber aggressive do i have to change the spring and retainers. I dont need my evo idling like garbage till i get it tuned. I have not tuned my evo sense i got it because im trying to get all the parts i can on it before i make that long drive for a tune. dont have any good preformace shop around here. so i have to do all these installs with me and my moms boyfriend. I have a full blown shop to work at so installing is not to much of a problem so far. I just dont tune. So im gonna drive out to where mellon is and let him do it. Hints why i dont want it idling like garbage for the drive. also use it as my DD right now but i have other cars to drive if i have to. I plan on doing those 4 mods and maybe a ported Intake if its worth it. then go get tuned. Basically every good bolt on tune then ill get a bigger turbo tune again. my goal is to get 500whp. I was going off of Mellon advice at what parts to get to reach my goal on pump gas. He recommend me getting any camgears does not matter and hks 280 if i did not want to change the factory spring and retaniers. Im seeing all these people with ported o2 manifold and hotside 10.5. So i thought maybe more i can add to help out now before i drive 5+ hours to see him. Where does this ported 10.5 hotside go and how do i install it exactly.

RockmanX I shot you a pm with my email for the guide thanks again

If you live near Texas look in the Southwest region forums you might be able to find some tuners that are closer to you. I think I've read about AMS going down to DFW area a few times but don't quote me on that.

Any big cam upgrade (272/M2+) will give you a lumpy idle until you get tuned. My buddy put hks 264's on his evo 8 and had a little rough idle before it was tuned. With 272/280, even after you tune, the idle may be close to stock, but you'll notice it somewhat.

As for springs/retainers, from what I've read on here, if you don't rev past ~8k, the retainers aren't needed for the cossie M2s. That being said, big cams like to rev higher. A guy I talk to for mod advice has cossie M2's and is revving until 8700. At that point you need to do springs/retainers (and probably headstuds).

The hotside, is exactly that, the hotside of the turbo. It's right next to the turbine blades that are spun by the exhaust coming out of the exhaust manifold. You have an evo 8, so your stock hotside is a 9.8 (the hole is smaller) . Alot of people with evo 8's upgrade to a 10.5 hotside to free up some airflow. Here is a picture from PPI of a hotside (PPI did my porting on the hotside/exhaust manifold).

http://paradigmperformance.net/produ...o/hotside.html

As for installing it, you have to remove the downpipe, O2 housing and radiator. When you take the hotside off you have to be very careful that you don't mess up the turbine blades. They are sensitive. Taking off the radiator allows you more room so that you don't mess up the blades.

from what i been reading people said doing the 10.5 conversion is a waste of money. i should just get a evo 9 turbo which comes with all of that and be done. I would have to get a evo 8 to 9 conversion kit as well im guessing . should i just do that and get ported o2 OR should i just get my camgears timing belt camshafts and just get a bigger turbo kit instead??? What about the intake on the back??? worth porting or even my time??

KevinD in DFW, he will give you a great deal and tune the car after the install. Best tuner around IMO..

Its depends on how much money your willing to spend. If money is no object for upgrading your car then go with the FP Turbo's (FpWhite, FpGreen, or FpRed). By the way, the Fpwhite is the same price as the stock evo 9 turbo but it features the 68mm HTA compressor section coupled to the TD05H 10.5cm2 turbine section. This combo produces the fastest spool and transient response possible in a EVO9 based turbocharger. And they sell the Evo 8 to 9 kit on www.lancershop.com

As for the O2 Housing, its wise to change it out with a ported or Stainless Steel Fabricated O2. It decreases weight and increases flow which equals better performance. You really feel the difference in the upper RPM's with conjunction of a TBE.

Camgears and Camshaft should be done after you freed up all your piping...Air Intake, Intercooler pipe kit, o2 housing, TBE, etc.

Porting the Intake Manifold is somewhat helpful if your planning to go in the 400 and up range in WHP. You'll get minimal increase if your running lower then that.
