Most people don't run the crash beam. It weighs a ton.

Once you tear into the install you will see it will all start to make sense.

I think mine were 1/4 inch. I really don't remember. I know I put washers on the back side for safe keeping so my rivits were a tad longer than what may be needed.

Sorry.

The other piece needs to have the portion where you just drilled out flattened.
The two tangs that held the plate holder is what I am talking about.
They look like an "S" shape and need to be more of an "L".
The plate holder needs to be reinstalled on the other portion about an inch higher than where it was. Just line it up, marke the piece and drill them.
Then reinstall the plate holder with new rivits.

I found that you can bend the longest portion of the tangs back behind themselves. This will keep them from hitting the bumper.

Hope this helps.

Now this guy know's what he's talking about. Exactly how I did mine.

Now, I am mainly only flattening the upper area, but the lower area where it begins that little L shape is fine to keep that way right? So it ends up being kinda being a little bit like the curved part in a lower case h but obviously not as severe of a curve. Then drilling 1" above where the whole is now? (this is becuase we bent the bars down right?)

Am I a noob or does my rivet gun suck. My rivets come out WAY sideways and bulkier and longer then the rivets that were already on the bumper. I already had some rivet gun from years ago it prolly just sucks.

Just drill out the plate holder and make some new mounting points. I have mine so that the bottom of my plate surround sits at the edge of the black portion if that makes sense.

I was in the same boat as you, the installs made zero sense to me. Best way to find out why you have to modify the bracket is to test fit it on the JDM rear before modifying it. You'll see how freaking far out it sticks.

The metal is bendable with your bare hands, I formed mine into the shape it need to be to work.

i guess pics of why im drilling of what you just said of the jdm sticking out would help a ton. I just dont see the whole reason for drilling right now with the current pics. Kind of sloppy if you ask me. When i install mine im going to redo the guide Im sure once i get into it ill see why i have to drill. what about the crash beam?!!?!?!?

I was gonna do that again but, it seemed like more work, what I did was drill 2 new holes about 2inches lower (almost the middle of my licesne plate) and then just put the screws through there. It brought my license plate basically as high as it can go.
